Help with Onkyo upgrade

I own a Onkyo HT-S990THX Home Theater in a box. I have purchased a Onkyo TX-SR705S to upgrade the receiver.
My old system had the following Polk speakers; RT600, CS400i, FX300i.

I was wondering if I should use the old Polk speakers or keep the much smaller but THX certified ones that came with the HTIB?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome Johnny!

    Keep the Polks! They will trounce any HTIB that is made. Once you get it all setup you will love it!

    Hook them both up and see what you think. I would think the Polks would be better, but that opinion is not based on first hand knowledge. I wouldn't pay any attention to the THX certification.

    I also have some spare HTIB speakers laying around....I replaced them with polks and never looked back...

    +1, best way to decide is to listen for yourself. I agree with everyone else you'll probably decide on the Polks, but there's only one way to find out.

    Onkyo is not famous for their speakers. ;-)

    I just upgraded my my reciever and my front and center. I have the onk 705 and the RTi8s and the CSi3 and i love it so far, im replacing a Yamaha HTIB and its looking amazing and sounding better

    The 990 is said to be not worthy of being called a HTIB, but pro reviewers. It's that good. But, it's not "that" good and the Polks will likely "trounce" the Onkyo's, and I agree, you need to listen for yourself.

    I also agree, Onkyo isn't known for the speakers, well actually they kinda are....but not for having good speakers. :D

    I believe it's the receiver that is THX certified not the speakers.

    Speakers can be as well. If they pass certain tests which I have no idea what they are.
