The SAMA (if you are to buy it from, say, audioadvisor) is specifically designed to work with the HW-19 series only.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -

George, I have the Dynavector Karat 17D3 and it is an awesome cartridge for the money. (I have been working my way up the Dyna line). I consider Nottingham, SOTA and VPI tables in the rich and warm category. I have demo'd these tables with the same cartridges (Shelter and Dynavector line). To my ears they have much better dynamics with the Dynavector.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -
OK guys, I'm working on a vpi now. Trying to hash out the shipping charges, and a few other things. Fingers crossed.

If you're buying a used one, make sure you tell the seller the following critical shipping steps:
1) (most important) Remove the platter!!! Wrap it separate, and store it underneath the turnable in the box.
2) Remove the counterweight and wrap it up. Pack it in a little box along with all the other little items like the belt, the hinges, springs, etc.
3) Completely remove the hinges from the dustcover, wrap and pack in said small box.
4) Secure the tonearm to the rest with a tie wrap.
5) If a cartridge is included, I'd recommend they remove the cartridge and pack it separately.
Note: all of this applies, even if they have the original VPI box/packaging. If they don't do all the above steps, you will end up with damage.
Unfortunately, with turntables, there is always the chance of damage in shipping, even when the right precautions are taken, but if the above steps are taken, and everything else is securely packed, the chance of damage is minimal. I shipped an Oracle turntable all the way to New Zealand without any shipping damage, so it can be done.
Good luck. Let us know how things work out.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -

These are words of wisdom from hard grinding experience. -

I you were to spend any money on the TT, I would highly recommend the Super Plater. It was a significant improvement over the standard platter. PM me if you are interested in this path and I will give you a couple of things to specifically inquire about.
This is my thread on the Scout. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed and third, it is accepted as self evident. -
I wish I could get that super platter.

Thanks for the link,,I remember following it before I got my scout,I just re-read it,,and three things come to mind,,1-One of the best threads posted,,2-this is going to get expensive,,3--I may be in over my head. All of this talk about VTA,platters, rings, clamps, just overwhelms me.My fear of effing something up motivated me to take my tt into Atlanta to have it setup by a knowledgeable dealer. Hell, I'm still agonizing over the fact that I may not have the phono pre(P-75) set up correctly for the cart.Granted, it does sound better, and I feel that I'm on my way to acheiving the sound that I'm
after(warm, organic) This thread has been a great learning experience. Pm's are on the way for some advice,,,when does it end:D,,and BTW,, thanks for the link---I'm embarrassed to say this,, but my turntable somewhat intimidates me.;):)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -

George all you have to do is pop that cherry ONE TIME and the fear and timidness goes away trust me. After 17 years of not messing with a TT I was getting panic attacks when it came time to set up my table. Once I got started, I'm using one hand to adjust this while using the other hand to eat a sammich, while yelling at me son to bring me a certain tool. . . well you get the idea.
