Hi
I'm new to home audio and separates. Interested in buying an external amplifer. The question is...What type of cable is needed to go from the receiver preouts to the external amplifier inputs? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Your HK only has RCA's.

XLR CABLE - An analog audio cable normally used to connect microphones, amplifiers, etc to professional audio devices. It has three pins and provides a balanced input, as opposed to an unbalanced or single-ended RCA connector. See pics below 1) Balanced IC 2) Unbalanced RCA

By the way, SignalCable offers real good quality cables over the Monster stuff, worth a try.

A good question to know up front. If you choose a multi-channel amp, you will need one RCA (for unbalanced) to RCA for each channel run from AVR pre-outs to the external amp. Welcome to the forum.
