Can unplugging / plugging in power cable damage a PSW1000 BASH Amp?

I'm rather baffled as can be. I'm a non-believer when it comes to "if it aint broke don't fix it" (then again what audiophile is?) So here I was yesterday thinking how much a HATE the power wire that came with my PSW1000 and how it needs an upgrade! I grab up a spare MIT Zcord2 and unplug the oh so thin Polk PC and plug in the Z2, flip the power switch and then humm its already flipped to on. Look on the front and theres no led, check the toggle and switch it to always on and nothing flip it a few times and nothing, replug in the old PC and still nothing! WTH??

Lil bit about myself. I'm a former arcade game tech thats been building custom home theaters for around 10 yrs, also been a drummer for 23yrs and worked in many studios on equipment so I know my way around electronics. I pull the fuse and meter it and its fine. Odd. Meter the wires and they are fine. I did the whole try jump starting the auto sense with a direct connect from my IPod, nadda. Opened her up and checked for other fuses, nothing. It is getting power past the on/off switch. Unhooked the speakers and re hooked up the power and nope. All caps, resistors, everything looks brand new.And this is as far as I can go with the equipment I have on hand. :(

BUT I did notice one of the resistors that reside next to the speaker wire out spade was REALLLLLY close to touching if not touching already but if it was touching it had been since the factory as these just don't move on their own. I gave it some room to breath and still nothing. Sigh

The sub is on a dedicated 20a circuit with a Panamax MIP-20A-EX all by its self, I'm just baffled how plugging in the power cord could do this? I've done this to so many other electronics without any issues. I'm going to give Kennith a ring later in the day but figured I'd make a post of it anyways.
Thanks everyone and I've always loved this forum just never needed to post till now.

Welcome to Club Polk. Have you tried re-installing the old power cord?

    Hehe. Whoops, missed that.

Might just be coincidence that it happened at the same time then, but it sounds like there is an issue with the amp itself now.

Stand-by switch is in the correct position? I believe that there is a fuse inside [not 100% positive, as I haven't had mine apart]. Have you made sure that the fuse isn't blown?

Check the fuse. It may just need a bit of cleaning on the contacts and not even be blown. Happened to me once.

Umm sorry guys but are you reading the post?? I've already covered all the basic diagnostics. The amp is getting all the juice it needs but stops somewhere after the PCB. I don't have an oscilloscope or I'd work on it further. Granted someone at the lab can assist me. Thanks though! I've left Ken a VM and look forward to getting my thumps back up and kicking.

I don't know what kind of status light you have. Can you describe all of them?

Make sure you didn't accidentally flip a voltage selector from 115 volt to 230 volt.

I once had an amp power on but with no signal, because the volume knob had cracked. It took me 2 weeks of looking over it every now and again to see it. I doubt this is your issue as the amp started to work with. Mine was busted out of the box.

    Hello Draggin,
I'm sorry you're having a problem with the PSW1000. I have no idea what could have caused the problem. However, remove the amplifier, box it up and send it to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154. Please include a short note giving us your name, address and a copy of the sales receipt. The service folks will examine the amplifier and repair/replace as necessary.
    Regards, Ken

Did this ever get resolved? I seem to be having an identical problem. Noticed the power cord was out (dog may have knocked it out... the factory cord/socket never felt particularly tight). Anyway, plugged it back in (realized the Main switch was 'on' after the fact) and now... nothing. It's worked flawlessly up till this point, and has not been moved or anything recently.

I opened up the back, checked the fuse... I couldn't find anything obviously wrong. The lights on the front do not light up, but I hear a little "click" when I plug the cord in so it's getting power to some extent. I tried a spare cord, still nothing. I've got the whole LSi lineup (9's for front and rear and the center) and never had a problem with any of it till now. Is there a known issue with these amp's or the electronics? It seems that this is a rather common problem with these subs unfortunately :frown:

I called customer service early today multiple times, no way to get through to anyone. I finally left a message, and still haven't heard back :( . If this is a known issue with these subs, I'd like to know about it. I run a ton of polk equipment (lsi9s front and rear, lsic, psw1000, polk momos for my car, and polk sr6500 x 4 for the other car). First time I had an issue with any of the polk items I've got, but I want to get this issue sorted out pretty quickly as it's been down 2 weeks at this point.

Hi, my polk PSW1000 is dead. No lights, no relay click, no humming- nothing. Ihave some experience on repairing electronics. Did some basic troubleshooting. It seems like the power supply board might be at fault, but it is difficult to diagnose without schematics. I have some schematics, but not for the power supply. I live in South Africa, so its not worth while to ship it back to Polk for Repairs. Any advice? ps. Obviously checked the fuse and tested the power switch. Power goes into psu, but no voltage leaves the psu to other pc boards.
