I just received my jolida 302a tube amp today and I am haveing some problems. I am not getting any sound. I am starting to get worried. i don't have a clue as to what to look for. First off let me tell what has happend so far. I unpacked the amp and set in my rack. I read and reread the manual many times. I connected the speaker cables. Put in all new tubes. I let it warm up for a good 30 minutes. Then I biased the tubes. I biased them all a around 41 - 42 millivolts. I then plug in the rcas and started to turn up the volume and nothing. I don't have a clue. Please help I am freaking out!

Try a different source input? You didn't connect the rca cables with it powered on, did you?

No. Ok heres where I am. I decided to keep the new power tubes in and put in the old pre amp tubes and power driver tubes. Volia! It works. I narrowed it down to the Groove tube 12ax7-m pre amp tubesthat were the culprit. So now I have the new JJ's for the power tubes and the mullard 12at7's for the power driver tubes and I am using the old united elctro tubes in the preamp section. The Jolida DOES NOT like the 12ax7's. What am I supposed to use in the pre amp section? The manual says a 6dj8 tube type is required. Is that not in the 12ax7 family? I just poped the groove tubes out of my jolida1301 hybrid so I know they work. Unless I damaged them taking them out.

So whats going on? Did I damage my groove tubes or are they the wrong tubes?

Also who the hell is united elctro.? Are they good or bad? They say made in england on the side of them.

Ok so I did some research and it appears that the 6DJ8's are not the same as a 12ax7. So now for another question. Can someone recommend some 6DJ8 tubes?

No more tube rolling / pulling / installing for you! You need to read up, you're lucky you didn't damage the amp. I like the JAN Phillips 6922 for an all around good 6DJ8. Low price, good bass, mid and top end. Not the air of the Amperex BB's, but a better bottom end in most circuits.

For now, just sit back and enjoy the tunes.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Thats what the site says but not what the manual says. Had I known this I would have never bought the 12ax7's. Oh well. I get to go tube shopping again.:D

I am sure glad nothing happened to my amp.:o

Right now I am just enjoying what I got.:)

Nope. I am sure I will have something in here that will require them eventually. So far there the best sounding 12ax7's I have had. But I've only had two other types.:o Ei elites and some chinese type. They kllled the Ei's if you ask me.

I noticed you mentioned the Amperex's. I am actually looking a getting a pair of NOS Amperex with the orange O lettering.

How would these compare to the BB's? I noticed they are about a dime a dozen.

just got off the phone with bill baker at response audio, the original 302a from 1994 did use 6dj8's. try some 7308's or nos tesla's (not jj).

try the tunsol reissue ecc803s gold pins for your 12ax7's in your other amp.

I am looking at some NOS orange label Amperex and some Telefunken NOS tubes on ebay. The Tele's are $100.00 a pair. I just don't know enough about tubes yet to know if this is a good price or not.:( I think I might just watch the orange label Amperex's and see if I can get them for $40.00 or $50.00
