Are you referring to the SVS SB12-Plus?

It's a great sub. I had one and was very happy with it.

Here are some ideas for starting points:

Gain turned approximately 1/3 clockwise from lowest point
    Auto/on set to Auto
Parametric EQ Level set to min
    Phase set to 0
Crossover disabled (set the crossover in your Onkyo avr)
Room Comp You'll need to calculate room volume. Room's length X width X ceiling height = volume of room in cubic feet. Set Room Comp dial to small if less than 1400 cubic feet, medium if 1400 - 2400, or large if above 2400.

These settings will get you up and running. I'd recommend getting a Radio Shack SPL meter and eventually calibrating the sub to the other speakers in your set-up.

Ask questions as you become more familiar with the different options and settings. I'd be glad to help.

ok so i hooked it up and ran audessy. firstly, for some reason it set my speakers to full, should it not be set so i can control the crossover points? secondly, i dont feel any vibration from the sub.. should i feel something if i put my hand in front of the sw? i have never had a sub before so all this is new.

When the sub is connected properly and a low bass scene plays on your DVD you're going to feel it big time. A good example is in "Finding Nemo". Play the "Darla" scene where she taps on the aquarium. It's the beginning of chapter 24, 25, or 26. I forget which. Turn the volume up to a comfortable but loud level and enjoy!!! When she taps the glass your walls are gonna shake!!! You'll feel it and hear it!

You might have to turn the gain up a bit past 1/3 on the back of the sub but don't go over half way up. That's why a SPL meter is nice to have. You adjust the gain to where it matches the output of the rest of your speakers.
