I bought a new house and it had ceiling prewires for a 5.1 system. i have not heard good things about in celing speakers so i wanted to use satalight speakers. my question is when i mount these to the ceiling, is there something that will cover the hole left from the prewiring? currently blank outlet covers are over those holes. thanks!

Who says in ceiling speakers aren't good? Have you heard Polk's LCi line???
If you must use satellites, I suggest putting speaker terminals in place of the wall plates. If you're on a tight budget, just drill a small hole in the wall plate that covers the hole and run the cable through it. Use a cheap rubber grommit around the hole id you want a super tidy appearance. -
i was going to go with the LCi line but thought that in ceiling speakers were subpar. i would rather go with in ceiling. it would be a 5.1 setup with all in the ceiling (other than the sub) what speakers would you recommend?

I don't think you ever heard ineiling speakers go.
I for one enjoy a full inceiling home theater. It sounds awesome. Polks rt series inceilings sound fantastic.
Speakercraft , Niles , Boston Acoustics just to name a few all make awesome inceiling speakers. B&W makes really nice inceiling speakers that in my opnion was one of the best sounding well balanced home theaters I installed.
Sat type speakers don't compare to inceiling speakers not to mention look stupid hanging off the ceiling.

In wall/ceiling speakers have come a long way recently. Personally I like satellite speakers better because you can fine tune their placement if need be and when the upgrade bug bites, and you can be sure it will, they are easier to swap out.
FYI, Here's a link to what you replace those blank outlet covers with you currently have if you go with the sats. There are other manufacturers like parts express too.

If I had my druthers I'd get...
Front: 1 pair LCi-RTS100 (due to budget, I'd probably end up with LC80i)
Surround: 1 pair LC80fx
Center: LCi-RTS-C (if budget is a concern, LCi-C)
Save some dough for a good 5 channel amp. You'll need it.
**correction** If it must be an in ceiling for the center, get one to match the two fronts. I didn't realize the LCi centers were "in wall" vs. "in ceiling". -
ouch, my wife will not let me go after the lci line. it just isn't in the budget. what does everyone think of doing all five speakers with RC80i? i would listen to music 60% of the time and watch tv/movies 40%.

I would look into the tc series. Many have tc615i on sale for $100 a speaker or less.If you live near a frys they are $50 each on sale but they will not ship. -
The Tc series are very very good and easy to drive. I Install them all the time and I love it. the results are always killer.Dan

I don't know on the RC series, have never heard them. I have heard tc615 with the 3 fronts in wall and 2 rears in ceiling and it sounded nice for $250. You will need a sub no matter what you use for home theater,so no real need to go 8" in my opinion. No matter what you do the front soundstage will sound better with the speakers at about earlevel. Polk has a booklet on surround you may want to get before you cut holes, its free for the asking.
