Would you believe that this is a video game?

gt5prologue---17.jpg

That is from the GT5 Prologue game preview. It is just incredible. It's not the accuracy of the graphics that gets me but rather how realistic the shading and the lighting is. The cars look incredibly real as is but the shading and the sunlight is like dead on.

If play control is as good as the previous 4 GT games then that game will be the PS3's deal breaker. That is what is going to give the PS3 market buoyancy and force the game developers to start taking that platform much more seriously.

I wouldn't worry too much about gameplay, as great as that game looks, the Gran Turismo series has always been about the realism of driving so the gameplay has always been top notch. :)

You're right! That realism is dead on. Anybody know what the graphics card equivalent would be? Or is PS3 the only one still able to produce this?

screw the game... I'll take a real new STI please! :p

I love how the GT games have always looked but I've never been able to play any of them for more than 5 minutes. The lack of feedback has always left me helplessly without a real sense of speed and I just plain suck at them because of it.

I'm afraid of being flamed ot death on this one, but... don't any of you guys find the Gran Turismo games a TAD boring? Once you get over the realism, it's just like.... not that exciting, right?

Don't forget that GT5: prologue is sort of like a huge $40 demo for the actual Gran Turismo 5. That is, this is a full game, but it isn't the official Gran Turismo 5 which is coming out later with more cars and other stuff.. It is kind of a strange way to do things.

Nope, I still play the original GT from time to time.

The realism is what keeps it fun for me. I mean, I'll never be able to take some rinky dink car or even an exotic and run it around say Laguna Seca or The 'Ring but I can get a chance to at least see what it would be like and learn the tracks in the game. The realism lets you drive the car like a real race car and see how you will do. It lets you follow a real racing line and you can mess around with settings on the car and see what they will do. I don't get tired of that. I mean, I'll get tired of it in a single session but I'll put it down and come back to it later.

It's fun but I'm a gearhead. You cut me and motor oil comes out. Anything with cars, I don't ever get tired of.

Try it in front of a big screen, and with a force-feedback wheel. It's literally, a different game. Each car gives a different feel to the wheel. Soon you almost forget you are playing a game.

yeah, I've never played with a full setup. A nice FF wheel with pedals combined with a huge screen might make it better. With a controller, I felt like I had to literally look at the speedometer going into each corner and just plain memorize how fast each corner could be taken. Not exactly fun. When you drive, you *feel* the speed and don't look at the speedo too much. Anyways, a PS3, plus the game, plus a set of FF wheel and pedals... hmm, six, maybe seven hundred? Too rich for my blood :(

I think this is where I miss out too, I never did invest in a wheel so it's just another video game.

Looks very nice. Video games can't mimic the real world just yet so it's still noticeable that it's a video game but it's definitely shaping up nicely. I just hope the cars can be damaged in this game :)

that screenshot is just an old trick that developers use to make you think the game looks better than it is. thats more than likely not an actual screenshot of the game being played. what developers do is come up with the concept for the screenshot and then place high poly models on the track and take a high res screenshot of that. this way they can juice the poly's way way up..higher than the system can actually render in real-time. this is an actual screen of the game being played. notice the difference? i'm not so impressed anymore

I don't know, because I have already played games on my 360 that look that good and the capability of the PS3 is just as good. If I know anything about the Gran Turismo series they go out of their way to make the games graphically appealing. Even if it doesn't look that good, look at the screen you posted -- it's missing a ton of rendering. There's no way on earth that's the final product for the PS3.

It isn't hard to make a freakishly good looking game as long as there are no people. Our brains are freakishly good at faces. But Cars + Planes? The replays have been near-photo realistic since Gran Turismo 3 IMO (except for plants / lighting).

My brother works at a GameStop. I've been messing with alot of PS3 demos including a GT5 demo and the graphics are quite detailed and very close to what was posted. Then again, it was a pre-production demo so what I've seen is likely different.

But don't make any mistake, as good as the Wii and 360 are, the PS3 was designed with some serious horsepower under the hood and it is capable of the performance needed to keep up with a game like what the screenshots of Prologue are showing.

There is a download in the Playstation store but you have to OWN a PS3 to do it... why wait????

Allday can't wait for this one, I have owned them all.

If we're thinking about the same demo, it's rather old and while nice it's nowhere close to what GT5 should be when it comes out.
