rt25i speakers sound muddy

Hi,

I just bought some rt25i speakers used but in great cosmetic condition. I expected them to live up to the reviews that they sound like speakers costing upwards of $1000 a pair. Alas, mine sound more like an $80 dollar pair. I have other cheaper Celestion and KLH bookshelves that sound way better. So something is obviously wrong with my pair. They both sound identical, so think the tweeters/woofers are okay. I have messed with the phase and that isn't the problem. I then wondered if someone put some crummy crossovers in them. So I looked inside but I have no idea if they are the originals. All I know is that the components/capaciters are awfully tiny, not what I would expect from a higher end speaker. Any help on this would be very much appreciated!!! by the way, I have listened to them on my son's 220 watt RMS/channel Kenwood power amp which makes my Mirage IIsis sing. But the Polks just sound muddy with little definition....

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me...

If they sound "muddy" it is probably a tweeter issue. Those tri-lam tweeters are no longer availble but the replacement silk domes are a drop in relacement and sound as good..if not better. Call Ken at Polk CS and he can walk you through how to test them and what your options are if they need replacement. I will vouch for the "detail" of the RT25is and for the quality of Polks CS. That is a speaker worth fixing.

I owned a set of RT25i's. They looked great but sounded only average. I ended up selling them on E-bay and haven't missed them much.

    Hi,

Do you know what the crossover is supposed to look like? If so, what is the easiest way to send you pics? I can also send them of the woofers and tweeters as well...

    Thanks in advance for helping!!
