So I finally hooked up my ADCOM 5503 to my Yamaha Rx-v1800 Preout.
Originally I had the speakers set up to the Yamaha only.

I didnt put up the volume too much (because its getting late) but honestly, I didnt notice a "night" and "day" difference I was expecting.
I played the same scene from the ratatouille movie (rat escaping) and while it did sound abit louder. I didnt too much of a difference.......

I will perform more testing in the day where I can turn it up...

Off topic: I notice when I set the bluray audio option to Dobly Digital. It sounded better than PCM. I though PCM was the best audio I can pick..

Amp: Emotiva XPA-5

Also, you should try it with music and see what you get. Plus, the volume might help give you those better dynamics like wingnut was saying.

I tried that exact same amp when I had my 15's. I used a Pioneer AVR as a preamp. I was not impressed.

I ignored the sleeping residents near me and turned up the volume to test the system.
I defintely hear the difference. Sounds are more pronounced, I hear more details in the sound. Imaging is also better.

What other amp would you guys recommend (200WPC)?

Basically adding an amp gives you more power. If you want night and day, you need a preamp of higher quality.

When using a receiver as a preamp, you are still going to hear the sonic signature of that receiver. The amp will help when the needs exceed the abilities of the internal amps. This is why it sounds better louder with the external amp. It has alot more current and the ability to be alot more dynamic.

Most receivers amps need all the power they have ust to drive a 4 ohm load speaker. Most receivers are not rated to drive 4 ohm loads. While most even not rated will do the job but have little or no dynamics.

Seeing your using a Yamaha as a preamp, I suggest you look into B&K amps. they tend to have a warmer sonic signature. It's not easy to hear the difference from one power amp to another but there are details that change slighty.

Make sure you recalibrate the system. And by all means listen to some music as well for further analysis.

I take back my initial impression. I turned it up loud this morning and defintely hear the difference. The LSI15 were able to breath and produce clear and crisp sound.
Going to do some more testing...

I posted this on another thread but I can't figure out why Ratatouille on bluray plays so much nicer with DD 5.1 versus PCM.... I remember Casino Royale sounded so much better in PCM. Maybe I have something set up wrong
