MM, there's no need to seek a "consensus" on the point of appropriate gauge for various lengths of run. This explanation of speaker wiring by a veteran audio professional is frequently cited and the table of suggested gauges can be used with confidence.

I wasted my time, and checked your link. Very sad. The page suggest that it is proper to wire speakers 8ohms at up to 12' with 22ga. Well rock on with your system. You should at least post something a wee bit more realistic. Just a little bit. As Hitler said "If you are going to tell a lie make it a big one.". I do realize this works on both ends of the spectrum;)
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

Sometimes I wonder if some people were beaten with wires when they were young:confused: They were probably expensive wires, and the more expensive the wires the more angry they become. I'm thinking a mommy dearest kinda scene. No more wire hangers ever!

They believe all cables sound the same because all the cheap ones usually do. ;)

Cable technology and McIntosh products have improved since the mid 80's. It would be interesting to hear their current stance.

Really? How exactly has cable technology improved since the 80's?

    http://www.audioquest.com/

    http://www.kimber.com/Products/LoudSpeakerCables/default.aspx

    http://www.goertzaudio.com/

    http://www.mitcables.com/

How many of these products were around then?

Yes I know Kimber was around, but if you compared what they had available then to now, you may as well have used lamp cord.

That would be wasted info as you can't hear a difference.

I have to say that I find your repeated attempts to poo poo others who can hear a difference based solely on your inability.......well, quite humorous.

www.knukonceptz.com has some great prices on wire. To me as long as it's copper and around 16 to 14gu then it's good. Doesn't have to be fancy but if it works use it.
