Removing binding post lug nuts

Ive bought some r50's and also a csi25 center I would like to use banana plugs to run wire to the speaker and in the manual for both it says to "unscrew the binding post lug nuts completely to expose the binding post plugs." I see the plugs but when I unscrew the binding posts they stop at the top and won't continue to unscrew. I was just wondering if I need to pull them from this point or just turn them harder. I know this is a pretty meager question but thank you for the help.

Screw the lugs all the way back in. You can then pry the little black caps out with the point of a knife. They come out very easy.

Do those little caps on binding posts of the Polk speakers do anything? I mean, if you're going to put in bananas, do you just throw the caps away?

I believe the reasoning for the caps was because electrical outlets in europe have a similar design to the dual banana plug layout. Apparently people were accidentally connecting an AC current directly to their speakers. I'm at a loss as to why anyone would do that...but I remember reading that somewhere on Polks website. I'll see if I can find it.
edit-here's the page explaining it. In Polk's FAQ section.

Talk about a powered speaker! I did a watt volt ohm conversion at 220vac 4 ohms that would be a 12,000 watts 60hz sine wave! Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Damn...that's pushing some juice. We just need to hook up a CD player and preamp at the power plant and have them just send the signal through their lines...lol...Talk about some power.:pThe nirvana inducer-

Thanks for the suggestions, I've been trying to remove that piece for 1/2 hour, denting and scratching the post a lot. The instructions in the manual is really unclear.
Using the knife tip is the easiest.
