360 Red light o death....

Hello

Well, my 360 finally broke down last night. I got the 3 red flashing lights and will not boot up. I called them up and on a positive note this is covered by their warranty that they extended 3 years. Their shipping me a box to send it in to get repaired.

This is one of the original 360's which I bought on the release date and I guess prone to problems. It hasn't given me any problems till now......

I was wondering, do you guys know what their going to replace/upgrade or what they've done to the original 360's to fix this? And if any of you have sent yours in, how long did it take to get it back?

Thanks

Most of us had to go through this. Seems like the turnaround time is pretty good.

Turn around time for me is usually about 2 weeks. They have to send you a box, you have to send it back, they have to process it, and then send it back to you. Because nothing moves on the weekends it invariably takes longer than it should.

I've gone through the process 4 times. My latest unit has survived for close to 6 months now, so maybe they got their issues figured out. I don't know what changes they've made, except that I believe most of their problems are heat related. I will say that my latest XBox has a *much* louder fan noise than all my others and the fan runs almost constantly when there's a game in the drive. My others did not run the fan nearly as much.

Good luck on the replacement. At the very least each of my replacements was a very smooth process other than the long turn-around time.

Mine took about 3-4 weeks to get back. Yes it is a heat related issue. The box I got back had a different serial number than the one I sent in, looks to be new.

Well the dumb thing booted back up again now. When I tried it a bit ago it was still showing the red lights. Its been cold too when it fails.....

If this is an intermittent issue will they still do something with it? I'd hate to go through all this and they send it back saying theirs nothing wrong with it....

Two of the 4 of mine did the same thing; intermittent red ring of death before dying completely. Just go through the replacement process and you'll get a new one. Don't wait for it to die completely, just do it now and get it over with.

Yes, the process is started so will definately go through with it even though its intermittent. Actually it doesn't take much to get it to freeze up or not boot up....

my 2nd 360 broke down 2 weeks ago. This time I said screw Microsoft in the USA, I never received my 1st unit back since they lost it. I sent it to Xbox Japan and the turnaround time was 2 days. Get this, plus when you call you talk to a real person, and they speak excellent English and Japanese to boot. I was shocked. Xbox USA, whew good luck with that one, that was a total nightmare. Send it in you should get it back in a week to 10 days. I would ask for the new core system since all the newer machines have HDMI connections in the back and they run super quiet. I just bought a core unit, and I keep the one I just got back from repairs as a back up.

Make sure your A/V cables are not loose in the back of the 360 -- that will also bring up red lights.

Yes, I checked all that right away, I unhooked all my peripherals too and tried it.

Heres an interesting article I came across today about the 360's failing...

My first 360 went in under a year. Had it repaired then I traded it in and got a HDMI 360. It's been fine since....(crossing my fingers and knocking on wood)..

Mine died last night. Three red lights flashing.

I created the repair order via the web page, and they are supposed to send me a box to ship it. Anyone followed this process? How long does it take to get the box?

It'll depend on where you're located vs. where they ship from (Texas I think?). For me it always takes 3-4 business days to get the box. I didn't use the website for the repair order, but I doubt that would cause any differences since it all ends up in the same spot in the end.

Thanks; I don't use it that much, so it's my son who will miss it. I guess a couple of weeks without X-Box will not hurt the grades ;)

It took mine 3 weeks door to door. One week to get the coffin, sent it out same day, took another week for them to receive it, and another week to get to my door. The part that I don't get it is: they are not sending back your unit, rather, it's more of a recycling program, you'll get a refurb of someone else that has been fixed. So, the question is, why can't they do cross-shipment?

Btw, you oughta get the Rock Band, it's hillariously fun game for the family. Being booed out by the crowd due to messing up the band is priceless!
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
