Just wondering ...

How much power would it require to blow up the LSI15...

What metric is used to rate that ?

Matt Polk slipped on his toilet seat, hit his head on the sink, and, in a daze, the image of the Lsi15s came to him.

He was only able to deduce the maximum power capacity of the speakers after getting his hands on enough plutonium, which he ripped off from some Libyan terrorists.

If you will send me your LSi 15s I will experiment.

I recently bought a Sunfire TGA-5400 (800W x 5 at 4 ohms) and haven't yet blown up my LSi15s. On the other hand I have not bothered to find a CD/DVD recorded at a high level and played it with the volume set to 11

    That rules...

    Anyway why do you ask?

the Lsi's work great around 200 watts. 120 high current watts could get the job done well. 185 B&k watts is beautiful.

First, please define blow up. I think you mean seperation of the cone or perhaps rupture of the surround.

There is no calculation of power destruction. It can happen at 20 watts or 1200. If you run too low of an LFE with the crossover set too low, that can do it. I blew the Kevlar off of my B&W's at 250 watts.

1800 watts of unaltered A/C will blow almost any speaker (only bose survived to tell the tale, and sounded better to). Distortion kills speakers, not power. And as any good audiophile knows max power ratings are meaningless and only used to cover manufacturer's rear.

Overextention from too much bass can damage well below where the voice coil fries also.

Well, it's simple. Just start with 1 gigawatt, and add .21 more.

    Sheesh!
