Deciding on new receiver

Guys,
Im trying to decide between a H/K AVR 247 or 347 vs. onkyo 705. The 705 makes 100 w/ channel- plenty to drive the RTI8's without an amp for now. But I know that HK has better sound quality (plays cleaner) and they produce around 50-55 w/ channels for all channels @ 8ohms.
Which is a better receiver to drive the RTI8's?

between the 2 the HK I agree sounds a bit better with Rt series speakers. Some really enjoy the sound of the Onkyo and benefit from all there features. Feature wise I like the Onkyo's better, sound wise I perfer the HK's but honestly I would rather see you buy a Pioneer Elite receiver and get the best of both worlds.
Also if you like Onkyo you might like Yamaha receivers better. I feel they sound better and have comparable features dollar per dollar.
Good luck with your choice.

I would go with the Onkyo 705 because it will push the 8's enough, and if you think you need more the 705 has pre's for an amp. I've had Yamaha receivers as well and like them very much, but their hdmi switchers are a little pricey. I'm very happy with my 705, and I have a 7 channel amp which really makes the 8's sound nice. Keep an eye on shoponkyo.com they had some refurbished 705's priced in the 400's, but don't currently.

Thanks so much guys for the help!!!
mj- do the refurbished onkyo's have the same warranty from the manufacturer like the HK's? And never thought about refurbished- is it possible to get a refurbished 805 for around 500? -
Also, I heard that the HK 247 have issues with the LFE. Is that also in the 347? What other issues are there for the 247/ 347?
thx -
I tried out the harmon kardon 247 and while the sound quality was good it does have a few issues. The biggest one which i encountered was the clicking sound you hear through the speakers when no input is being played. I read where other people had the same issues but i thought harmon kardon had solved the problem, since this issue has been known for some time. Also the unit does get hot especially when you first power it up, me and my wife could actually smell it while it was running. I am sure there may be others in the forum the might not have had these issues So i am only giving you my situation. Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase.

Thanks Klove,
My current onkyo 605 which i am returning is extremely hot as well. Might be related to the speakers you're driving?

Onkyo Refurbs generally offer a 1 yr. Warranty. Not sure if they offer extended warranties.Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid. ..... Frank Zappa

You have the option of purchasing an extended warrenty when you check out of Club Onkyo. I believe the price for a 3 year warrenty is roughly $ 30 USD.
