ADC Clipping on my PRE

I am a little confused on this so perhaps the experts can lend a hand.
I have received a signal on my Proceed AVP that indicates ADC Clipping. My Esoteric SACD is connected to the Proceed AVP via MIT analog XLRs. During the playing of some of my CDs (SACD Dire Straights Brothers in Arms for one) I received a message on the front of the AVP display that indicated ADC clipping. This was happening at low and moderate volume levels. I checked the manual and it stated that should this occur I should lower the input decibel level for that device, which I have done. In essence I believe I have lowered the input signal from the Esoteric and am very confused on why this is happening. Another question is I always assumed that sound signals needed to be presented in an analog format and it sounds from reading the manual (I have attached this and the reference is on page 51) that the signal is again being converted from analog to digital.
My understanding was that I would use analog ICs from the source to the PRE and therefore the source, in this case the Esoteric, would do the digital-to-analog conversion with the internal DAC. Then the analog signal would be passed to the AVP via the analog ICs. The rationale was that the DAC in the Esoteric is superior to the DAC in the Proceed AVP consequently using the Esoteric as the converter. Is the signal being converted again to digital inside the Proceed?
WOW Just when I thought I understood a little of this stuff confusion entered the game. Thanks in advance for the assistance folks.

did it just begin doing this? explain how long you've had this system in place as is and when it began giving you the ADC clipping errorPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I have had this for over a year. It started when I first purchased a SVS sub and I had to turn down the input for HT. When I connected the Esoteric X-03 player I had to do it for this area of configuration as well.Michael

Well, I figured this one out. I thought I would enable the sub for music playback with my LSi9's. I was looking for that extra bass. Anyway, since I had the sub enabled the playback was being processed in the digital area of the Pre. By setting the sub to "Force Off" I am back to straight 2CH analog and can set the input back to reference level which adds volume level. Brothers in Arms never sounded so good.Michael
