I'm looking for suggestions on a wall mount to support these speakers (used as rears for 5.1)....2 feet above ears, 90-110 degrees from center channel.

Thanks!

Thanks Dorokusai....i was just gonna ask about those.

I read that the speakers should be 2 feet above ears and equal or a few feet behind (90 to 110 degrees). I saw a few threads where people were reluctant to drills holes in their speakers (to make sure they stay on the mounts when tilted downwards).

    So my questions are:

    1) Would **** them in place harm the Rti4 in any way?
    2) Is it necessary to tilt them downwords? (diagrams i saw for speaker placement didn't specify)

    Thanks!

I've used these for years on my front loudspeakers, using downtilt and have never had a problem. I check them every now and then to ensure they are tight and they always are. I don't believe it's neccesary to drill holes.

You could tie a thin dress shoelace around the binding post, then the mount if you are concerned.

I've got RTI4s for Fronts and Rears in my 5.1 setup.

For the fronts I'm using the B Tech BT-77 mounts seen here:

Totally satisfied with the mounts and you do NOT have to drill into the cabinets to get a secure fit.

The B Tech BT-77s do allow a downward tilt - so it depends on where you have your speakers mounted and where your listening positioning is.

For the rears, I do not have a side wall as my family room is open on one side to the kitchen, so I had to ceiling mount the rear RTI4s.

For that application I used the Ominmount 20.0 (rated for 20lb speakers and I weighed my RTI4s at 11lbs). This is also a good mount, imho and also allows for adjusting angles. I've got the RTI4 rears angled down and towards my listening spot.

    Cheers,
    Erik

    Thanks for the info guys!

I bought the BT-77 and put them up on the wall this weekend. A bit pricey, but they seem like a very sturdy product. Finding the studs behind the wall, measuring where to install, etc. took some time, but the product itself was a breeze to install!!!

I haven't put the speakers on them yet (i am waiting for the wires anyway). I might use the shoelace idea just for peace of mind :)

    Cheers!

Something wrong with keyhole mounting? With proper placement, you need not tilt them anyway. I mount them all the time with the keyhole.

Something wrong with getting the loudspeaker aimed at the listening position? If I keyhole mounted my front speakers they would be shooting over my head....not a great way to create a convincing front stage.

I can see your point in regards to surround placement but isn't that up to the end user? Just because it might go against a Dolby/DTS suggested mounting position doesn't mean it's wrong.

I have my Rti4's mounted from the keyhole. My mounts aren't made for the weight of the Rti4 but I have the bottom of the speaker resting on the wall which gives me the down angle that I need. They have been hanging there without any problems for 2 years.
