This was a great movie! Although I can see people not liking it, I found it throughly enjoyable. The storyline was good and no real plot holes that I could see. It came off as being a preachy independent film that tried too hard to be intelligent from the previews but it was actually not like that at all.

The movie is about a girl who gets busy with her friend 'cause she's "bored". The friend obviously has a thing for her and is confused by the whole thing and freaked out. The girl decides to give the baby up for adoption and much of the ploy revolves around that aspect. The acting is nothing really Oscar worthy but the cast works very well together. Many of the faces you have seen already and they are famous for many reasons but mostly because of the notability of the niche roles they have all played. So it's difficult to get past the fact that you're looking at Jennifer Garner but the role she plays is a departure from other stuff she's done. Nobody seems uncomfortable in their roles but coupled with the uncomfortable plotlines (there are multiple in the movie) and the viewer's recognition of the actors in the movie make for an awkward viewing experience as each character is introduced.

As the movie goes on though, that goes away and you can't help but get in to it. It's not really a coming of age movie at all. It's preachy but not to the point of obviousness. The good thing about the movie is that there are quite a few shots at humor. Some of the stuff you have to think about or be paying attention to get but other things are not bashful about going for a cheap laugh.

It's a serious movie that doesn't take itself seriously at all. It ends up being a fun movie about a not-so-fun situation that I think everyone can find something that they identify with in it. At its roots, it's a love story but in a twisted kind of way.

I really liked it. It reminded me alot of "Garden State" in the way they approached it. It also has a pretty off-beat soundtrack. Sometimes I felt that it detracted from the movie but it did help set the tone. I recommend seeing it. There is nothing "big screen" about it though so if you want to wait for DVD, you won't be missing out.

    You would probably love it!

Have you seen the other movie I mentioned, "Garden State"? If not, you'd probably like that one too.

Me too! I really liked Garden State (partly because of Natalie) so I'm looking forward to Juno.

Very cute and funny movie. There were a couple really funny moments. I wish there was more Michael Cera though.

Is it just me, or did this movie have no business being nominated for Best Picture last night?

It had no business for Best Picture. It's another example of how cliche and cookie cutter Hollywood has become. It wasn't a bad movie, but it's the same old **** and there's no depth. It's like everyone trying to copy Garden State or the Little Miss Sunshine of the movie world over and over again. Come to think of it, this almost all started with Ghost World. It's the dialogue that's so bad -- completely unrealistic given the characters.

    agree 1,0000000000000%

it was your typical, slightly better than average teen flick.

it had no biz being in best pic category. Had it won, I would have thrown my TV out the window.

Just finally got around to seeing this movie today, and I must disagree with DB and ****. I think it was well worth a Best Pic nomination. It's nice to see the academy acknowledging something other than huge budget dramas. Reminds me of the old days when an actress like Marisa Tomei could be nominated and actually win for her roll in My Cousin Vinny. Anyway...regardless of whether you think it's Oscar worthy or not, it's still a great film.
    Highly Recommended.

I saw it when it first came out. Wasn't my idea as I thought it'd be a preachy teen pregnancy movie. Not the case at all. Pretty funny and entertaining overall.

I've seen some real crap get nominated for an award and it always seems to be movies people have never heard of. Most of the movies "in the running" are released just before the awards. Its like Hollywood can't remember back farther than 3 months. I don't watch awards shows cause I could care less who is wearing what and who won the "best editing of a drama" award .
