I purchased my first surround system combining a Yamaha RV661 receiver with Polk RM6880 speakers. I hooked up the system using 16' speaker wire which I hid in the wall during renovations. The outside wall is concrete (not sure if that matters). When I turned the system on and listened to the FM receiver I could hear a high ptiched hissing noise. Any idea what would cause this?
Thanks
Thanks

Do you have an FM antenna hooked up? Do you have the hiss with CDs?

Welcome. Does it do the same with a different source? (TV, DVD player, etc). This could be just bad reception on your tuner._________________________________________________

SOPAThank God for different opinions. Imagine the world if we all wanted the same woman -
I have the FM antennae hooked up but did not hook up any other components. The hiss appeared regardless of what FM station I was on. I'll try a CD tonight.

OK I'm changing my speaker wires in the wall. I think I ran the current ones too close to the electric lines. I plan to use CL3 rated Monster THX 400 wire and space it at least 16 inches from the electrical wires. Couple of questions:
1 - Is this wire good to use?
2 - The wires are the same color. How do I know which is + and which is - when I hook up the terminals? -
1 - I would (and did) use the in-wall rated wire from blue jeans cable. better wire for a lower cost. (12 guage is Cl-2 rated and 10 guage is CL-3 rated)
2 - one side of the wire should have writing, a white stripe, or something on it to idetify it as different from the other side. If not, get different wire.
