You gotta be kidding me! Those things have been for sale for forever. Oh well, I'll keep my eye out for you. I can't believe after all this time it came down to a matter of hours!

Yeah I know, I suck at life, but I wasn't comfortable making the investment without talking to you fine people first. Now that I've been set straight, I'll nab the next quality pair I see.

They also have the "crinkled" ribbon, unlike the pair discussed. This does have that ECS-U unit I was talking about on the tele......

Patience is always a virtue, but also remember that this is a club with benefits to members in good standing. If it comes down to it, "things" can be worked out for you. ;)

Well that's good to hear. I think I will wait to see what may come about. In the meantime I will enjoy my adagios and keep my eyes open to a'gon and ebay.

I've also joined the Carver forum to see what I can learn over there.

Since there seem to be a lot of people with knowledge on the ALs let me ask a question that I've been trying to get answered for years...we have an old set of ALIII+ that sound fantastic. They're currently in a room where they are being used for Theater and music. Any suggestions for a center channel that would sound even remotely similar? I know the AL's aren't designed for HT however they do take up a lot of space and it would be hard to have both the AL's and another set of speakers for HT.

    Thanks

Believe or not, an excellent center channel which uses a kapton ribbon that is a good audio match (I used it with my Amazings when I owned them) is the HTD Level 3 center channel:

    http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/center-channel-speakers/Level-THREE-Center-Channel-Speaker

Most would never consider these because they "don't cost enough!". They are actually very well made and built and really blend well with the kapton ribbon the Carver uses. Just my two cents from actual experience.

Not a bad suggestion at all.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I was reading about those a little while ago....remind me of Apogee. They are definately proud of them too.

Hey, I have a pair of these speakers I want to sell, last night I started researching and found your forum. They are Carver Oak Plat IV LF- nothing wrong with them, we use them and they sound great, just looking to get something much smaller. Any idea what the price for them should be? Thanks, Sara (Raleigh NC)

As I may have already given away, I know very little about speakers so bear with me- They are the platinum edition, from what you guys say in the posts, they must be the mark IV-they've got the three round dials: bass, hi frequency, upper mid range... they are oak, my boyfriend got them from his brother who bought them new, we are moving a few months so~ thought we'd sell them and get something you don't have to pick the apartment around. Of course, they sound great which makes us hesitate to sell them- they've never been repaired, we use 2 carver model silver 9 t amplifiers and a forte pre amp. and i just joined so i can't reply to private messages.

Yes, you have the MKIII or MKIV edition. Do the speakers have a 48" ribbon and 3 woofers, or a 60" ribbon and 4 woofers? This will let us know what model you have. I'm betting you have the 48" ribbon and 3 woofers.

If they are oak, they are Plats.

The original CAL wasn't offered in Oak. I'm betting MkIV's with the dials in the back, those sound like MKIV's.

It says IV on the back- will post some lame cell phone pictures in a few minutes- no scuffs on either, front or back- I doubt they've ever been outside an airconditioned room. my boyfriend is extremely fastidious- he dusts! he vacuums! If i'd owned them they would be in much more raggedy shape. he mostly listens to classical and opera and has a great ear so I don't think there is any interior damage- no idea what the length of the ribbon would be.

Actually, the Amazing Silvers did come in oak (3 12" woofers per side with a 48" ribbon). I had a pair of them once. But I don't believe the Silvers ever came in a Mark IV edition as the Platinums came in Original (2 30" ribbons) and II, III, and IV (which all had one 60" ribbon).

I'm 6' tall and my eyeballs are at the top of the 60" ribbon speaker. The Silver Edition would be at neck level if this helps.

No, I know the Silvers came in oak...

I'm saying that the original version with (2) 30" ribbons per speak were never in Oak. The original wasn't ever 'Platinum' it was just the Carver Amazing Loudspeaker.

The Silvers never had a MKIV designation. They were always just silvers.

    Agreed.

The only thing that used to tick me off with the Carvers is that you'd get them all set up and sounding FANTASTIC. Next day, they wouldn't sound nearly as good for no explanable reason. Mine were that finnicky.
