They are also making one under the Marantz name as well, for the low, low price of $2099.

Who makes Denon players anyway? I thought all their DVD players are outsourced. Am I under the wrong impression?
Ok, googled it up. Looks like majority of the Denon's are outsourced to Funai and a few selected higher end models are made by Denon. -
Are Denon and Marantz the same company?

I thought I'd heard that somewhere a while back. I wonder how much of their design and manufacturing is shared though?

Looks to me Sony will do anything, ANYTHING in order to come away winning no matter the outcome of the war.
This is keeping me from neutral and picking up a Blu Ray player.
So you go buy a new Denon BD player, drop some serious cash.
No standards are set in place at this time, so what are you getting. A highly overpriced sub standard BD player that with the Denon name or others, which you had hoped it had better capabilities on the audio side, which it may have, only to find out its obsolete a year down the road.
Why, cause with the standard change new hardware needs to be in place, which you won't know what it is until standards are set. So your $$$$$$ dollar investment is beat by the PS3 again.
Right now the PS-3 is the only machine to date that has all the capabilites and up grade able ness that Sony may throw out. 2 others all ready out are "SUPPOSE" to be capable, but they go 3x the PS3 cost.
Samsung is discontinuing their stand alones and going dual format. The 1000, 1200 and 1400 each have problems playing certain disc's or won't play them at all depending on the releases dates and style of transfer. I was this {} close to buying a 1400 before I found this out on Blu Ray forums.
Sony really needs to finalize its format completely before trudging forward!!!
We want HDM!!!! Not war and not changes made during a war to strengthen ones side, which could ultimately could do it in, due to it!!! -
Yeah the whole Blu-Ray 1.0 and Blu-Ray 2.0 specifications are confusing the hell out of me as well and only have a PS3 purchase on the horizon to give me my HD movie thrills as Im too nervous in investing in an overpriced player that will be obsolete within a year.

yeah, but it's a Sony.. and Sony makes good products.. well not Blu Ray players. but their TV's look really good..
I'm with ya pal. the whole profile 1.0, 2.0 bites it hard. Why didn't they finalize this **** before the sold players like HD DVD did?
If someone does buy an expensive Denon or Marantz player, i hope the firmware can be updated though.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Heres a link to a short article comparing Blu-ray format 1.0/1.1/ and 2.0.

Looking at the Blue Ray spec's, why would you even buy one until the spec level 2 players are out on the market? I'll stick with SD upscaled until then.DKG999

I like your thinking. I am in the same camp as you.. why bother right now? get the specs worked out.. lower the price of Blu players and everyone will be happy.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

DB - exactly! If the BD players were at full spec, and a few more choices were on the market, then I wouldn't mind spending in the $500 to $600 range for a good player that was firmware upgradable so that it had a useful life of 3 to 5 years.DKG999

Part of the reason why the PS3 is so popular.
-
It is the best choice in Blue ray. Not to mention it's a video game, a card reader and a music server. How cool is that??Part of the reason why the PS3 is so popular.
Did I mention it's the fastest loading Blue ray player on the market?Dan

the ps3 is pretty slick..

PS3 is the only updated machine here via my son. I personally I'm
going to sit this one out. Wanna bet that 2.0 format won't even
playback without an internet connection? I smell a move to online
digital rights management. Of course, I'm paranoid."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson
