I caught part of Paul Harvey news this morning on my drive to work. He was advertising the Bose Wave Radio. Did you know that one guy who bought one was a stage hand at an opera house for 37 years and he didn't think he'd EVER hear the excitement of a live performance again.. until his wife bought him a Wave Radio!! Hallelujah!! Brought tears to his eyes!!*

ANYway... Paul referred to the head of Bose as "Doctor Bose..." DOCTOR!! The man is a DOCTOR!! Of COURSE he knows a thing or two about great sound.. he is a friggin doctor!!!

Wanted to clear up that whole Bose thing. Now you know why they are superior. I mean, come on.. a doctor!

*I'm pretty sure the tears were due to nostalgia and not the result of finding out how much his wife paid for that thing.

According to my Bose rep, Dr Bose has a degree in how the human ear interprets sound.

    Doctor of Marketing, more likely.

Actually, Polk Company president, Jim Herd, is a former Bose VP and knows Dr. Bose well.

Can someone please enlighten me on Bose speakers. Having never listened to them (that I remember) I don't really understand the debate. Or is there one? What do/don't they offer? Does anyone own a pair that is happy with them?

    Paul,

Bose will not reveal the spec's of their gear. Therefore, the secret. That makes alot of folks (including me) wonder what they are hiding. They do a great job of marketing hype and appeal to the average joe, read yuppies. No audiophile would be caught dead with a Blose system. It sounds fine for background music, but when pushed a little, fails badly. Their "systems" are very expensive for what you get, ie. cheap paper cones with foam surrounds and plastic speaker cabinets. Their products and business practices remind one of the old snake oil salesmen, you're getting something, you just don't know what.

    Cheers,
    Jesse

    Thanks F1,

I suppose when you spend a lot on advertising there is not much left for product.

He made a demo model that moves little styrofoam beads around in really cool looking waves.

Actually, from what I recall, their speakers in the mid 80's were not that bad. I liked the 301, 501 and 601 models. Don't get me wrong, I still went the way of Polk back then, but those models from Bose were not half bad. They are way above what is being made today at Bose.

    Today, it's just simply junk!
    No excuses!

their bose cubes house a paper cone - dust cap, with a foam surround, cheap crossovers - then are like 2.38 inch drivers or something like that, full range, no tweeter, their bass modules are 5.35 inch drivers, paper cone - dust caps, and a foam surround again, wit a cheap amp, and a cheap plastic amp cover..everything about them are cheaply made, they dont give specs, sound artificial, dont have removable grills on some of their speakers, overall --- THEY SUCK!

    Hmmmm....Dan,

You're not making a good case for your "knowledge" as a installer. I expected better from you. How can anyone justify the junk that Bose makes!?! Do you own it? Do you? I don't and never will, even when I'm older. ;)
