On the same bit rate I like AAC better then mp3. AAC at 192 kbps with variable bit rate is a very good compromise for sound quality/space utilization point of view.

Thanks, steve. Next question, does it matter which option I use to import the music? IE does one sound better than the others? Thanks again.

I'm new at this myself---keep that in mind--however, any lossless codec will render the best results, but use the most space. The average song in apple lossless is around 36 MB--compare that with about 4MB for AAC/256kbps which renders very respectable sound...

With 22 songs loaded on my 1GB shuffle, I wasn't even using 1/4 of it's capacity with AAC/256kbps encoding. That's quite alot of music on a tiny device.

My IPOD shuffle bit the dust yesterday. Reloaded ITunes, restored the IPOD---nothing. No charging, won't let me put any songs on it--dead. Well, off to Best Buy I go.....
