Hi, I 'm trying to help my friend with a problem, I sold him my old RMS6000 (i believe thats what they were called) 5.1 satellite set, and older Yamaha receiver. Here's the problem, the receiver will try and work for like 5 seconds then the power will cut, ok sounds like a bad receiver right? So we try another, brand new receiver he got for Xmas, same thing happens, I double checked all the connections and everything is set up correctly. Could this be something with the subwoofer or bad speaker wiring? I have no clue, this is beyond my limited a/v knowledge.

Sounds like a speaker wire problem. Maybe you nicked one of the wires. Don't run the speakers through the sub. You need to work one step at a time until you figure out the problem.

fixed it, and it was a real easy fix, he had the connections from the speakers to the sub to the receiver reversed, he felt like an idiot, but I'm sure that happens all the time...i hope.
