Which plasma

I am looking at buying a 50 inch panasonic plasma right after christmas. I have been reading reviews on two different models. The problem that I am having is one is 720p and the other is 1080p. The models that I need to choose between are the TH50PX75U and the TH50PZ700U. I know the one has the glare filter but that is not really important to me. I just dont know if for the extra 800 if the picture will look that much better. I get mixed reviews from every writeup. My viewing distance will be around 6-8 feet from the tv. The main sources will be hd cable and bluray on the ps3. If it will be that much better I would have not have the problem spending the extra money. I have the 42 inch 720p panny right now and love it.Thanks for any suggestions.

Honestly the 1080p 700 from Panasonic sucks. It's black levels are blurry and undefined. The 77u actually looks much better and it's alot cheaper.

Sony XBR5 sets blow the Panasonic away. They cost alittle more but alot better picutre.

The new Samsung also looks better then the panasonic 700u and is a good vs for the 77u.

I know it seems weird that the 77u looks better then the 700 or even the 750u but it does. The 77u has a clearer more defined picture. Only 1080i but for the money it's really nice.

I have the 75u panasonic 50 inch in the family room. Like Mantis said you can't beat it for the price. If you want information overload go to avsforum.com and get your read on:p If money is no object the Pioneer Elite is a great looking plasma. Good luck in your search.

I have the TH50PX77U which is basically the same set as the TH50PX75U with an antiglare coating. It is amazing! CNet has it rated as one of the best plasmas.

If you are considering this model, check out Vanns. When I bought mine last month, they were running a special on the item. $1399 tax free and free shipping.

Also, I'm not sure about your area, but Best Buy was selling the TH50PX75U for $2000 with 2 years no interest financing. Frye's, on the other hand, had it priced at $1500. So it would have been easy to get BestBuy to price match AND get the no interest financing for 2 years.

I'm not sure what's going on now, but I'm passing along the information for what it's worth.

JT you are right about the Panasonic Elite. It won television of the year for Home Theater magazine and many other awards. The picture is incredible. If I had an extra 8 grand sitting around I would love to have it.

I'm very happy with the Samsung 50" 1080p plasma. Fabulous display.

I thought I read somewhere that the glare coating on the tv took away from the color pop of the picture. That is why I thought they came out with the glare filter instead. If the 77u is just as good if not better I have no problem with getting that and saving some money to get some more goodies.

I believe that has more to do with viewing angles from ambient light. Glare filters do make a difference on older flat screens, but it probably depends on if you ever watch from an angle- which I don't so probably wouldnt care.

It is just as good, in fact it is better. It is the step up model from the 75u. Maybe I was incorrect to say it has an antiglare "coating." Apparently, it is an antiglare screen. I wasn't aware there was a difference, so I was a bit loose with the terminology.

Wow I am glad i read this again. I thought we were talking about the 720p TH-50PX77U. Now after reading again I see that it is the 1080p TH-50PZ77U. At least I think so. Merry Christmas

I would like to second Zero's post. The Panasonic and Pionner plasmas are the tallest hogs at the trough.

I do like the Samsung and it can be had for a good price but Ive read about a lot of sets having issues with motion artifacts which worries me as Im huge on quality control.

LG also makes an outstanding plasma for the money but for only $200 more, you can have the Panasonic.

At this point in the game, I would go Pioneer, or wait another year, possibly two, for Panasonic to catch up. The blacks on the last Pioneer Elite 110FD I installed were so dark, I thought the tv was off when it didn't get a signal. By far the best tv I've seen, and I'd put it on par, or above Fujitsu and even Runco. The Elites are so good, SIM2 uses their panel for their new plasma.

I just want to make sure because I am ordering tonight. Which 77u looks better that you are talking about, the 720p or the 1080p? Thanks for all your help.

I have the PZ42" with the antiglare screen. It is way better then any coating I have seen before. I had to have a glare screen because my living room gets flooded with natural light. The 50" was just as clear to me. They do take a bit of tweaking when you get them home (They run on the hot side of color from the factory). Very room light dependant.

I also have to agree with Zero. For my money Pioneer and Panasonic are the way to go. It all depends on how many Benjamins you want to spend.

I am definitley going with the panasonic as I have a 42inch and am very happy with it. I am still not sure on the model though. I dont have any problem with light reflection in the room it is going in. The models are going to be between the 1080p TH-50PZ77U, or the 720p TH-50PX75U. I just want to make sure I wont lose any quality on the 720p model.
