    Hello,
Needless to say, that is certainly unusual, to say the least. I received your telephone voice mail message, however I must have copied the wrong phone number since I can't get the call to go through.
The only other part of the speaker that produces sound through the tweeter is the crossover. I'll send you a new tweeter and crossover and mid range/bass driver. To replace the crossover you would remove both the tweeter and driver and disconntect their wires. Then turn the speaker around and remove the input cup, the section that contains the positive/negative speaker terminals. This complete assembly will come out away from the cabinet and the crossover will be on the other side along with the connecting wires. Reverse the process, install the new crossover and input cup, route the two sets of wires and connect the new tweeter and driver. This will, in effect, make your speaker new for all the active components.
    Regards, ken

Well I got all my parts in and my R300 is working as it should. I have to give thanks to Polk Audio specifically Ken Swauger who made sure I got the correct parts in and delivered everything express mail. When I initially started this thread I was disappointed, but after further dealing with Polk Audio's costumer service I have nothing but good things to say about them. It was a friendly, no hassles, and fast delivering experience that has made me a Polk believer. Knowing that I have 5 years of warranty is nothing short of reassuring, thanks Polk!

Good stuff. I always like hearing stories like this. They replaced a power port on the back of 1 of my RTi-10s free of charge and free shipping, even after I had explained that I got them scratch and dent at Crutchfield. They do indeed have my allegiance :)

I’m a Polk believer, I bought a center speaker demo without a grill order them from Polk
Telling them how I got the speaker and I’m ready to pay $40. The gentleman from costumer service sends the grill for free including shipping. And assure me that it is covered with full warranty. Since then all my speaker are made by Polk. Now I’m ready to buy Rti10 main speaker to upgrade my Rti6. Nobody beats Polk Company when it comes to costumer service.

Well one speaker fixed now the other one goes bad. Seems it's suffering from the same defect as the first one. Hmm.... going by the date it seems these were manufactured in 2005 (purchased in 2007). Does anyone know how long is a crossover supposed to last? (Considering it wasn't in use till two years later).

A low quality xover (within reason) should last 10-15 years, high quality should last 15-20. Even then it will usually be easily perceptible degraded quality, not complete death.

You don't have kids around the house that might be blasting it "when mom & dads away" do you?

Could be Polk just got a bum batch of caps from a supplier. That's one reason Polk asks you for serial numbers when you get warranty work so they can keep track of these things to look for correlations.

You know ages ago I blew out a driver in a Polk sub and called Polk. It was still under warranty and I called asking how much for a new driver. This is how the conversation went:

Polk: When did you buy it?
    Me: XX/XX/XX
Polk: It's under warranty, we'll just send you a replacement.
Me: Yeah, but it's my fault I blew it up. It's not a defect, I should pay.
Polk: No, don't worry about it. We'll just send you a new one.
Me: Umm, well, it is my fault
Polk: It's fine, relax. We'll just send you a replacement for no charge.
Me: Well okay. How do I send the old one back?
Polk: If you send it back you will have to pay postage, so just keep it. Hang it on the wall or throw it out.

Since then I've bought five pairs of Polk speakers :)

could be a bad batch as Wizzy said, but could it be a power issue. happening once was wierd....hapenning twice (on another speaker no less) is downright freaky. do you have a power conditioner or something?

maybe your amp is goofy? reaallyy odd

I have kids but they stay away from my electronics :) I'm leaning more on the bad batch of crossovers as I have had no problems with the other polk speakers on this setup. Or any other of my electronic equipment connected to the same surge protector. And (knock on wood) my other speaker that was fixed 2 months ago is still working. I have them setup in my bedroom and they are lightly used. I just think I lucked out in getting a pair of bad r300's to begin with. I sent Ken a private message so now I'm waiting on Ken to once again come to the rescue....
