Obituary of the Late Mr. Common Sense
Current mood: mischievous
Category: Life

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain.
Why the early bird gets the worm.
Life isn't always fair.
Maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies:
Don't spend more than you can earn.

And reliable strategies:
Adults, not children, are in charge.

His health began to deteriorate when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that the themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools where required to get parental consent to administer Tylenol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the ten commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

He began to lose ground rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 yr old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teen suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding and unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parent, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his Daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 3 stepbrothers; I know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. . .
"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

    :( indeed.

Let's not forget the story of the 10-year old girl who brought a steak knife to school to.... cut her steak. And was subsequently arrested. And might be expelled.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I never had steak in school:confused:
Elementary school that serves steak? I was raised in Connecticut. Known as the one of the best states for average IQ(I don't know what happened to me), schools, low divorce rate, and highest income in the country. I never had steak at school. I'm pissed. I am going to burn my Polk's, and my Adcom's:mad:
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

The story I heard on the radio said she brought her own leftovers or something, which is why she brought the knife.

Apparently the school board would rather she not cut it and choke.

    I bet a lunch-lady steak needs more than plastic-ware.

I had the ugliest (i can't hardly type(Hebe gibes)) lunch ladies in high school. They were so ugly you had to tie a pork chop around their necks to get dogs to play with them. Their dentist must have had to treat them by mail. Moles with hair growing out like 2 inches long. Face nets for their beards. It looked like they fell out the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down. It was like a family reunion in their:p:D I need my meds:o

I don't get it. Was she resisting arrest? Was she waving the knife in a threatening way when the teachers tried to take it away from her? Why not ask her to hand her knife over, cut her steak for her, and let her know not to bring a knife to school again?

They always had the hair growing out of the tip of a mole...frightened a lot of kids in this country...it was almost like a resume requirement. I brought a pair of channel locks from shop one day and asked one if I could pull it out before it falls in the food....her reply " No Habla "

The blanket statement of "Zero Tolerance", is a copout. It takes away from the role of leadership and common sense. I can tell you that in my school, the knife would have been put away after an adult had made sure the meat was cut. After school the knife would have been given to the parent with a discussion about keeping it at home. Plus a reminder notice to all parents about not sending such an item to school with their child.

It seems that you live in a relatively conservative area for you to believe that the school administration would not overreact something of this type.

No, it's a parochial school in the Portland metro area, a city well-known for it's liberal vision.

Well parochial schools don't have the same "rules" as the public schools.

Sad to state this but this issue with the knife and 10 year old happen about 70 miles from me and I felt was a conservative area, and perhaps a bit redneck.
