Blown fuses

Hey guys,

Sorry if theres a long thread about this buried somewhere, but im getting pretty frustrated, and figured I would just ask here. Hopefully someone can help.

I have a Polk powered sub thats about 5 years old. I dont even know the model number or anything becauses theres nothing listed on the faceplate or the back side of the sub.

About a week ago, I lost all power to the sub. I tried several outlets, and had no luck. I took the back cover off and started checking around, and noticed that the glass fuse was blown. I took it out, took it to a hardware store, and got what i guess was just a small 2A auto fuse that looked to be the same size. Took it home, put it in, heard the sub hum slightly, then the fuse blew again. I got 2 fuses, because thats just the type of guy I am, and threw the other in. Same thing happened.

Am I putting the wrong fuse in? Is there a specialty fuse I need to order direct from Polk or whats the deal? I tried checking voltage, and have 120 volts coming in to the fuse, as well as on the other side of it, but then lose voltage immediately thereafter.

I know it needs to be a fast acting fuse, or at least that's what I've heard recommended for other speakers. Other than this I can't help you. It's certainly worth a call to Polk tomorrow to just ask them if the forum doesn't get it fixed tonight.

My recommendation would be to leave it alone and call Polk in the morning. There is a reason that your fuse is blowing and just adding more voltage and current to the problem may just be compounding the situation making the original issue much worse. Polk service is top notch and they will most certainly take good care of you. Good luck, welcome to the forum and Merry Christmas!
