problem with SDA 1C

Ok..hopefully you can help. I believe these speakers to be 1C's...for some reason I can't get an answer on that. The back of the speakers only say SDA1 nothing else that i can find. The serial number is 7064 on one of the speakers. They "look" just like speakers that are on ebay, listed as 1C's.
The tweeters are vertical above the drivers.

They were bought sometime between the late 80's and early 90's.....sorry can't get any closer then that...I just don't remember. I bought them new and cost about someware around 1300-1500..just don't remember.
I've been told to rebuild them, with RDO tweeters...OK what are RDO tweeters?
Are they the upgraded tweeters from Polk?.....can I just call up and order them?
I have gotten replacement parts from Polk before, I replaced a driver, and replaced 1 crossover....and probably a tweeter...of course i don't remember which speaker i replaced the crossover in...probably have to pull it apart and look at dates on the boards.

If I just buy a new crossover board from Polk ..dose it come with the stuff there telling to upgrade too..or do I need to buy the parts after I get the crossover??????

Sorry for all the probably lame questions, but I have not done anything with these speakers for a while...and just don't know this information.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can call Polk for new drivers.

As for crossover schematics, check out. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38755

Do you have some pictures of the speakers per chance? If they have the oak tops and bottoms, they are the 1C's. If they are solid black, then they could be the studio versions. IIRC, all of them will say SDA 1 on the back as my 1C's did, too.

This might help. Here is a link to the SDA 1C real wood and SDA 1C Studio. Do they look like either of those? Either use the same drivers and the replacement tweeters are the RD0-194's at a cost of $48 each (plus tax) for Club Polk members and are shipped 2nd Day. Hope this helps!

if they look like these they are 1C's. if they don't, then they aren't

    http://www.polksda.com/sda1c.shtml

it's not uncommon for any of the models of SDA's to be labled 1's, or 2's. etc. My 2B's don't say 2B.. they just say 2. same for all models of 1's. a 1B may just say 1, a 1C may just say 1. look at the speakers with the grills off.. that is the only way for sure to know which model you have. post a picture. and we'd be able to tell within a nanosecond which model you have.

    good luck.

I went back and re-read your post and maybe I don't see it. What is the actual problem with the speakers as you state in the title? Are you just looking for the model #?

I think he needs or wants to rebuild them with new RDO's and upgrade the crossovers too... sounds like anyways.

RDO-194 are the replacement upgrade tweeter than Polk Audio currently offers to replace the SL2000 silver coil dome tweeter that was used in many, many models of Polk speakers in the 80's. Good chance your SDA 1's have them too. Do a search for RDO or SL2000 for tons of threads started on both.

Thanks Avguytx...they look exacty like the "studio" ones. They are the black models....so I can safely say there SDA 1C's..LOL

Now to the question of these upgrades. These new tweeters.(RDO)....is this pretty much a must have upgrade?.....
Mine used to cut out once in a while ....when the speaker is pushed at high volume.

There is some kind of what i will call a slow blow fuse in this speaker...that cuts out the tweeters if pushed too hard.
Turn down the volume..basically to off...then turn it back up and the tweeter plays again.
I think I replaced 1 crossover board to correct that problem...but never changed the second in the other speaker.

I probably should just replace both crossover boards, in both speakers....
now the upgrade to this.....do I still need to replace caps and whatever on these new boards?....assuming I can still get them from Polk?

Thers still 1 driver I need to replace, but at the time i called Polk...they were back ordered, and din't have any in stock...hopefully they are still makeing these drivers......

Yes danger..those are the tweeters i have in there now...silver dome.
And yes I want to bring these back to top flight condition.

I was considering buying the RTi 12..to replace these....and use the 1C's as a tv speaker.....but the 1 responce i got on that was ..no....too bright, when pushed.....

these are my stereo speakers.....that I play very loud music on...from rock to Bach...LOL
    not some HDTV stuff.
    This is a 2 channel system....were I play "live" albums..mostly rock...at concert levels.
