FS: Sunfire CRM-2 Cinema Ribbon Duo’s with Stands

I have a pair of the Sunfire Cinema Ribbon duos that use the dual 4.5” high back EMF side firing drivers with the 6” ribbon (10’ of Kapton folded) in each cabinet. I also have the matching stands (ACC-2FS) that allow you to position them at the right height based on your room. These speakers are best used with a subwoofer as their low end response is limited. The rated range is 95Hz to 40kHz and power handling is 25 to 400 watts. They would (and do) team up great with one of the Sunfire TGA-5400 or 7400 amps or any of the others. I run them on a 200wpc Carver amp and they sound great. Also, the speakers are finished in 7 coats of high gloss lacquer over Ebonized Rosewood. Nice.

These speakers are just pretty darn cool to say the least. Even by themselves (with no sub), they are fun to listen to depending on where they are located from the wall, corners, etc. I run them with a Sunfire sub to make up for the low end though. These speakers are in perfect shape and include all original packaging, parts, etc. Remember that the ribbon design is basically the same as the Carver Amazings that use the larger ribbon and then it’s (theoretically) folded over and over to condense it down to fit the cabinet. The have a very wide stage to them because of the side firing drivers. If you are in the DFW area, (and I trust you!), you are more than welcome to come by and listen to them. If not, you might find a store in your area to audition them first. They do not sound like a conventional cone/dome driver speaker system so if you've yet to hear a ribbon/planar style speaker, then be prepared for something different...! I have heard 6 of these (plus the center so 7 total) set up with 2 Sunfire subs in a demo room and it’s quite an amazing sound. Also, multi-channel SACD or DVD-A sounds amazing on them, too.

The price? Firm at $1,100 plus CONUS shipping unless you are picking them up locally, of course. Again, this is for (2) CRM-2’s and (2) ACC-2FS stands which retail for $1,760. I will get some pictures of the actual speakers up this weekend as my digital camera is loaned out to a neighbor for experimenting with some kid pictures. Fun, fun.

Here is a link to more information on them from the website. Please don't hesitate to let me know if any questions.

Speakers have been sold to Bill!

They're not 6 inch ribbons they're actually 60 inch ribbons folded 10 times.

I listened and tested these along with the Gallo's and was blown away at how well they sound.

Do yourself a favor and find a local dealer that carry these.
Then buy these before i go crazy and get myself thrown out of the house for bringing another set of speakers.

I should have my camera back later today and will get pictures of the actual speakers posted in here. Russman lives fairly close to me (half an hour or so) and maybe he can stop by and take a listen to them, too. I've been rotating the Sunfire speakers and the Polk VM30's around that I have for evaluation. Ok, and the SRS II's drop back in there once in awhile too.

Got the camera back so here's a few shots of the speakers. Man, these things are hard to photograph because they are so reflective! I tried in the living room but the light wasn't right, wouldn't focus in, etc, etc. Also, I hate to say it but I can't find the stands for these. They were just here a couple of weeks ago before I started remodeling the living room and I', thinking my ex picked up the box with the stands. Great...now I have to call her for something. I'm not looking forward to that call but oh well. If anyone is interested in them without the stands, I'll sell them for $1000. Otherwise, if she can't (or won't) look for them and/or find them, and you do want stands, I will be glad to order a set for the $1100 price and ship them to you as soon as I get them.

I had them hooked up and sitting on top of the SRS II's (man, they are tiny in comparison!) along with a Sunfire sub for awhile today and, wow...there are things about these I really like better than the SRS's...in a way. I'm going to mess with them with the Sonic Holography turned on and see how it compares to the SDA effect for **** and giggles. Just remember that you MUST run these with a sub if you want low end at all. I'm running these speakers on a 200wpc Carver amp and I can make those lights bounce pretty easily since the CRM-2's even if they do have a 90dB sensitivity rating. Run some power on them...they like that.

If any questions, please let me know.

Yes, that is a reflection of the oak tops of the SRS II's on the front of the CRM-2. I told you they were reflective!

What's your point? A speaker can’t be looked at as just the drivers as there’s so much more to it. 90% of speakers on the market are using off-the-shelf components of some sort. Tweeter guys use other woofers, woofer guys use other tweeters. Then they use their cabinet and crossover to make a unique product (not to mention there are probably 8 billion different combinations you could come up with using off the shelf components).

Look at the older Polk speakers that used the Peerless tweeters. Similar principle applies. Oh, and what about the tweeters that are used in the Polk LSi series (which are nice btw..)? That's pretty much an off the shelf Vifa tweeter like this one from Parts Express. It's also used by quite a few other companies.

Relax man, as I doubt that Mazeroth meant anything but the observation.

The Polk tweeter isn't an off the shelf tweeter but a design in conjunction with VIFA. I would bet that Sunfire has a similar design and patent on their respective ribbon driver. Without dissecting them, I bet they are entirely different from the PE(Dayton) driver.

I'd like to hear those Sunfire's someday as I'm intrigued by the design.

I thought I'd bump this thread after Christmas. I will also include double boxed ground shipping of your choice for the $1000 price meaning the original box inside of a larger box. I believe I will also have the center channel version (CRM-2C) of this speaker, too, if anyone is interested. It's not even been opened and taken out of it's original box. If interested, let me know.
