Only 2 guys bidding...looks to be a pissing match between 2 rich guys. If thats the case it could go even way higher ( But with international shipping the Saudi sheik will win )The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club

Up to $2250.00 right now, which I would gladly pay if I were looking. There is just nothing out there (without spending LOTS more) that will touch these in my opinion. Made in the good ole USA and obviously high quality as they are 17 years old and as good as the day they were new. It really does say alot about them and the craftsmanship they put into things.

$2,550 with 11 hours to go. Last minute bids will take these above $3,000 for sure._________________________________________________

I wouldn't be able to afford them new today. I forgot who said it, but the 1.2TL's would be just under $5000 new today with the inflation curve. What I don't get is why more people just don't build them. If you buy used for $2000... you replace the tweeters $400... Do the XO's $500 with nice caps, and resistors.... You still have 10-20 year old MW's, and cabinets for $2900. I am not saying that they are not an awesome experience in speakers, and don't have a historical value(the only speaker designed with a crossover like this), but...
If you are handy...
cabinet materials for a real nice set of cabinets $400
XO's $650 (you need some inductors)
16 MW6503's $800
8 RDO's $400
4 10" PR's $300 (hot glue a nickel, or a quarter to the backs to get them tuned like a 15) 15's I am pretty sure are all gone, and 4 10's are faster than 2 15's.
For $2550 you end up with better than new (RDO's, and XO's) SDA1.2RDO's
Add another $450 for the fun of it (tools wires, and connectors). $3000Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Agreed. The bidding pattern has one guy with 8 bids, one with 5, and one with 4 and they're spread out through the whole process. A sure sign there are 3 guys/gals that want these speakers real bad.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p
Amp = Carver AV-705THX 5-Channel
Processor = NAD T747
Panasonic BD35 Blu-Ray
Main = SDA-1C Studio with RD0s, spikes, XO rebuild, rings, I/C upgrade
Center=Polk CS10, Surround = Athena Dipoles, Sub= Boston 12HO
Music/Video Streaming = Netgear NEO550
TT = Audio Technica -

I was about to bid on them because they are a reasonable distance from me, but with the shipping, I knew that I didn't have a chance to win that high bid.

Actually, they would be close to $6000 today. The 1989 MSRP of the 1.2TL's ($3400) is equivalent to $5800 in 2007 dollars.
I can easily see the retail cost being in the $7000-$8000 neighborhood if they were currently manufactured with premium crossover components, heavy duty binding posts, and modern high performance tweeters and drivers. I can see over $8000 if premium wood finishes were an option.:eek:Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
If you are handy...cabinet materials for a real nice set of cabinets $400
You would not be able to duplicate the mechanical and acoustic properties of the 1.2TL's monocoque cabinet structure for $400. You would also require access to some precision milling and routing machines to set the stereo and SDA drivers at the proper depths in the baffle board.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
$2,625.00.....I didn't bother to bid. I thought they would go way higher than this.
-
They looked very very nice.
-
If I were selling $2500 speakers I'd at least have cleaned the dust off of them.
-
I wonder what a pair with the silk dome tweeters, refurbished and upgraded back plate with Cardas posts, and Sonicap and Mills upgraded crossovers would pull in?
-
Planning on upgrading to a Bose Wave?
-
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Nah man I buying the Bose in the box complete system!!!

Have you ever seen the ones I have made? Nope. Ever heard them. Nope.I have a tape measure, and a square. A router, a circle jig, table saw, drill, and determination. I used better adhesive, drove, and screwed every six inches. I used better components in the XO than the originals. I made them for me. I have seen plenty of superior craftsmanship done by hand before precision milling machines. I didn't have to worry about shipping to thousands of people all over the country, and some around the world. I treated the entire interior of the speakers with dampening material. To set the depth of the speakers is one of the fun easy parts. A simple plain Jane router with a 1/2" rabbit bit. Perfectly flush mounted;) I had some support with the design from some very knowledgeable people. Matt Polk has even emailed me about the design. They weigh over 300lbs each. They have blown the minds of every one who has heard them. I would not recommend them as a first build, but if anyone wants to go for it I would gladly like to offer any assistance to the build. I have built 5 designs. 2 I did before doing research that were loud, and clear, but imaging was not there were I wanted it. The SDA-SRS's, and the 1C's I did were great, and my big ones were just mind blowing. The best compliment about them I can quote came from a guy who had a HiFi store was "I can't believe a speaker that large could just disappear". Almost everyone has every walked away from them saying that they are the best sounding speakers that I have ever heard. I would love for some fellow Polkies to come over. I will have them set back up in GA east of Atlanta, and My home is like my refridgerator... always open:)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. My point was not that you or anyone else could not construct a fine sounding set of speakers. As to whether a custom built set of SDA's could meet or exceed the performance of a Polk manufactured pair, I know that it is possible, but such performance could only be verified by one to one listening and laboratory evaluations.
My point was that the acoustic and mechanical properties of the SDA SRS 1.2TL cabinet could not be duplicated for $400. I based this on a conversation I had with Ken Swauger in February of 2001 when I was interested in building a set of 1.2TL's due to the difficulty of finding a set near me. When I asked if the cabinet plans and manufacturing test specifications were available, I was told that they had been lost and that even Polk, Inc. would have to start from scratch if they wanted to build a pair. Furthermore I was advised that duplicating the cabinets would be expensive. However, Ken's advice was given almost seven years ago and possibly may not hold true now. I will defer to your considerable experience in building custom SDA loudspeakers.
During the same conversation, Ken also advised patience in searching for a pair of 1.2TL's on the used market. My patience and diligent searching paid off later that year.:)Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Congrats on your 1.2TL's. I have seen them:) I have your book too:) Its almost worn out:D I will need another when I settle in on the Coffee table in the new listening area:D:D:D
I won't mention where I received most of my help here. They were gracious enough to help me out, and I won't make that info public out of gratitude, and respect. The SDA SweetSpot, in my current setup, is exactly 12 feet from the center point of the speaker plane.;):)Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!
