Here's what I managed to pick up in the last month off my local Craigslist.
405_8_big.jpg
From L to R.
Monitor 7C, Monitor 10, and Monitor 7.

After listening to all three, I'm torn between the 7 and 7C. I upgraded the caps and resistors in the 7C and am starting to prefer it over the 7, even though the 7 has the infamous Peerless tweets. I also have a pair of RD0-194's ready to go in the 7c's. After that, it'll probably be no contest.

As for the M10's, I was taken back by how much I don't like them. I don't know if it's my room or placement, but they're very boomy compared to the 7 and 7C. I usually prefer large speakers due to better bass response in my difficult room, but I'm disappointed in these. Would a crossover upgrade help, or are they inherently boomy?

I also had a chance to pick up a pair of SDA2's and Acoustic Research 9LS's. Due to a lack of space, no way of getting them home, and a bad back and shoulder, I had to pass. This is my second time I missed out on a pair of SDA's. I'll own a pair eventually, but I guess it'll have to wait.

Put some new caps on the Peerless 7's; I think you will like them better.

I wouldn't call the M10s "boomy" (at least by my standards), but they are quite bassy in my room as well. I would usually run with the bass trim knob at about 9:30 position, so knocking quite a bit off.

It might be worth checking to make sure all the padding that is supposed to be in there is in place.

Note - monitor 10's sound much much better on stands. I would not even run them just sitting on the floor. Could that be your issue?

Hey, now you know where you can get a pickup truck for hire, right? :D

I'd like to really get to hear those Tannoys/Mc some day, too.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Wow you have a nice group of speakers there. And alomost all the tweeters Polk made back then.

The Mon10's don't like to be near a back wall. And if you are using them in the area you took the picture in they will be boomy. The narrowing of the walls creates a big bottom end in even small speakers.

I miss my 10's. I had both series you have there. The 7's were great a good all round speaker. Go get some SDA's from ESAVINON.

    Go get

That's the plan when I'm done with my Tannoy crossovers.

I don't use tone controls. :p When I opened them to check out the crossovers, all the wadding appeared to be in place.

That's possible. I moved them around a couple more times and they sound a little better. While writing this, I just remembered I have a set of stands buried in the basement that would work. :)

They're being used in a different room. They're about 2' from the side walls and 4' from the back wall.

ESAVINON, I'm about to send you a PM.

Yeah, definitely put the 10s on stands - they were designed to be on them, so I would imagine connected directly the floor they would indeed sound very bassy.
