Commercial stand for Monitor 10's?

I have a pair of Monitor 10 (series II) speakers and would like stands for them. I don't think polk sells their stands anymore for these speakers (and I used to have a pair that I ditched when the vinyl started peeling off - little did I know how much I would miss them. )
Anyway - my question is, If I do not want to make stands, are there any commercially available the right height and more importantly with the 4-6 degree tilt that the original polk stands had? If so, any links to them???
Thanks,
Michael

HOLY CRAP, seeing this just reminded you I was supposed to measure those stands and totally forgot. Damnit.
Well, capecodder has them now, and I'm sure he'd be more than willing to bang out a quick few measurements for you.
Completely sorry about that man. -
FYI, here are the 2 key measurements if you end up making your own stands:
height of the front of speaker: 9.25"
height of the rear of speaker: 8+7/8"
This takes care of the height and tilt in 2 easy measurements. These were taken off my speakers while sitting on the stands. Note that the measurements are to the corners of the speaker while on the stand, not of the stand itself.
Good luck finding them.

I gotcha covered -
Thanks - was hoping not to have to build something though. (then again, if I have to, there are worse things in life... )Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

You may get lucky, but I'm betting you will have a hard time finding the vintage stands. You can use those measurements to reference current stands, or to build your own. If you don't care about appearances, it'll take you a grand total of about 3 pieces each to make some serviceable stands (2 flat pieces for the base and top, and a 4x4 post for the riser). If you have some scrap wood, this could cost you as little as nothing financially, and an afternoon or so time-wise.
The problem is most people who might have the vintage stands either know what they're used for and have them with a pair of speakers, or they have no clue and assume nobody would ever pay money for some cheap speaker stands, and so throw them out or don't bother trying to get rid of them by selling or giving them away.
But again, I haven't looked, so I don't really know. And you may get lucky! Good luck. -

Nice same as what I had but mine were for 10's. I'm sure you could put 10's on those but would be better for 7's and 5's. Sand them down and stain them and you have a pair of realy nice stands. -

I don't think they are original and I wouldn't use them for Monitor 10 or Monitor 7 unless you listen standing up.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Definately original. See the wood grain on the bottom and the contour of the sides? Same as my old ones.
-
You know that other manufacturers make stands right? I don't agree, look how tall they are? You would put a Monitor 10 on that?
I have an original template for the Monitor 5/7/10 and they all used the same stand. That may have changed later but I can't comment on that.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? As I said you could put a 10 on it, but I'd use them for 7's or 5's. Someone else on this forum has the same stands I had and said they were original polks, and based off how mine look compared to the base of those(contour and similiar grain, assume it's the same wood) I can only assume those in the ebay auction were original stands at some point for the 5's.
That being said:
Could they be original stands? Yes.
Could you put 10's on them? Yes.
Would I personally put 10's on them? No.
Would they look similiar to the stained ones I did? Probably. -
I got my stands when I got my 10's (1983), but they are not solid wood...probably not a Polk product...but they would seem to be about 4-6 inches shorter than the ones in the ebay pic.....you know what they say about size....

They are tall, that's for sure...Although they do resemble 5/7/10 stands, doubt they are "original" -

If that's the case, I'm going to suggest that everything up to SDA1C should be placed on these stands.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Well considering the 10's were sold with stands the SDA1C are a floor standing with a built in base I'm going to classify that comment as irrelevant.
You absolutely could put a pair of 10's on those stands and depending where/how you listen it could prove to be benefitial. I tried my 10's on short stands and it just didn't work right because the sides of my sofa blocked too much sound, so I put them on taller polk stands, made for 5's, and it works perfect. Another example maybe you walk around and listen to music or maybe you sit in a bar stool at a bar in your basement, who knows. All I am saying is that it is possible.
For all you know McLoki could hang upside down from his ceiling while listening and those stands would be perfect.
In all seriousness, there's no need for the smartass comment, if someone wanted to put 10's on those stands and had a reason for it, there is nothing that would make it a problem. They look to be the same as what I had, but taller, so I'm willing to bet they are solid wood and very sturdy.
EDIT: and if you really want to get technical about it. Yes they are sturdy stands, you could always buy them and cut them down to the height you want. Easier than making your own. -
Put them on a pair of concrete blocks or paving bricks. Top it off with a flat paver 6" X 10" and your in business. Some of those patio stores will cut them to size for a buck. Top it off with some paint or a piece of carpet and your in business. Get some Myesound spikes if you like, screw the rear spikes in more than the fronts to give it a little tilt to them. The whole project should cost about $15. In the meantime, look around for some original stands, build them yourself or have someone build them for you.Carl

I have two pair of Monitor stands and both are not solid wood. MDF with vinal covering. I have never seen an original stand in solid wood with the grain showing like these, but then I am sure there are a people on this forum who have seen a lot more than I have.:) I know one thing the ebay stands are not Polk stands.

Prove it and I'll believe it. -

Maybe someone from Polk HQ could way in on this debate.:cool:I agree with the comment about the height of these stands are too tall for any of the monitor speakers. I can't prove it.:p I just don't think Polk would have made any stands this height.

They absolutely did for the monitor 5's and 5 JR's. They don't even look that tall, maybe 18" or so. Maybe Ken or someone else from Polk will answer like you said, I'm curious myself as this is the third pair I've seen coupled with/from Polks. Seems too much of a coincidence to not from Polk. Maybe they didn't manufacture them but could have had a shortage of their stands and gave these instead....etc. -

The monitor 10Bs I have came with stands. See my measurements given in the second post on this thread for their height and tilt. It is obvious from looking at the stands from ebay in the pictures that they are significantly taller than my stands.
You know what, enough words. See attached pic. The tape measure is extended 12" above the ground (body is 3" tall, tape is extended 9"). Compare to ebay pics. Difference in height is obvious.
I postulate it is highly unlikely that Polk made 2 stands of different height for the same speaker.
PS: the black duct tape is to keep the rubber feet from sliding off the platform - the glue is shot. -

As you can see from my FIRST post, I said they were the same as mine but mine were for 10's, aka meaning shorter. Never did I once say the ones on ebay were for 10's.BaggedLancer wrote: »As I said you could put a 10 on it, but I'd use them for 7's or 5's. As you can see by my NEXT post, I once again said you could put 10's on those stands if you wanted. Never once did I say they were for 10's or came with 10's, but you could put your 10's on them should you choose to do so. I also suggested I'd only use them for 7's or 5's since both speakers are shorter than 10's. If they are 18" stands then I bet 7's wouldn't be half that bad on them. If they are taller, probably only 5's.The monitor 10Bs I have came with stands. See my measurements given in the second post on this thread for their height and tilt. Now, in this post, you are stating the obvious and proving my point exactly. Obviously they are taller, as I previously already inferred. However, should you want to, there is nothing stopping you from putting 10s on those stands. There is no magnet on the speaker and the stand that will repel the 10 should try and put it on those taller stands.I postulate it is highly unlikely that Polk made 2 stands of different height for the same speaker.
Obviously. Which is why back in the beginning I said these were probably for 7's or 5's, depending on the height of them.
Conclusion: Thank you for proving my point. If you really want to McLoki, I suggest buying them and cutting them down to suite your height needs. The wood is nice, they will sand and stain nice should you decide to do it, and you will have a pair of stands that will last the life of the speakers and never have to worry about vinyl peeling or particle board falling apart. -
So if we all agreed... WTF was that about??

Care to sell a set??
I have two sets of monitors 7B's and 10B's. Both are in use sorry.
Plus I might have to put a disclosure in that they might not be original polk stands;)

OK...let's close this out with a nice holiday carol...
