Will be out and about this weekend (trip to right coast was canceled) and was wondering where I could demo some Polks in the DFW area.
High end; low end stores, it doesn't matter. Where have you seen or heard them?
Have a good one,

With Tweeter gone, Fry's is the best option for a reasonable demo. The Plano store is setup pretty nice.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

    Thanks guys!
What about Star Power, Home Theater Store or any of the other "High end stores"?

    Hi Duff-

Home theater store sucks. They have nice B&W's but terrible service and don't carry Polk. If you want PM me and you can come over and check out my setup and drink a beer. I live in Argyle- Lantana actually which is 9 miles south of Denton and 6 miles West of the 35E.

    Hockeyboy,
Thanks for the offer, but your setup looks to be way out of my league.
    I've got fairly small family room and I'm leaning towards;
    Fronts ~ Rti8's or 10's
    Center ~ CSi3 or 5
    Surrounds ~ FXi3's or Monitor 30's
    Sub ~ SVS PB10-NSD
How far off base am I?
    Have a great weekend,

SHWBO and I finally got to Fry’s in Plano last evening and demoed speakers. I wanted to hear the difference between the RTi8’s vs. the Monitor 60’s with comparable centers. Fry’s is set up pretty well for the Polk’s and a really nice and knowledgeable guy by the name of Wes (only works weekends) that helped me out and answered any questions I had. I listened to the Montior 60’s and the RTi8’s and thought the Monitors were too "bright” for me, as I have never been a big fan of the high end and liked the way the RTi8’s sounded, but then he punched up the RTiA5’s and the difference was very discernible. Wes conveyed that he thought the Velodyne Subs were good for the money and like most on the forums that the Polks just are not there yet and I considered a DLS 3500. I did think that the DSW Pro 500 was comparable, but $100 more. I messed around until the wife gave me the look so we left so that I could “sleep on it”. I knew I wanted the RTiA5’s but wasn't sure I wanted to part with that many “dead presidents”. I went with the Polk sub, as I used the “free subwoofer/get $200 off deal”.
Here’s what I ordered this morning:
    Front ~ RTiA5
    Center ~ CSiA4
    Surrounds ~ FXiA4
    Sub ~ DSW Pro 500

Fry’s had a Onkyo 605 set up in the demo room and while it did a good job of running the above setup, the consensus on most of the Audio/Visual forums is to get more watts. I could turn the volume all the way up without any distortion (that I could hear in the demo room). Is there a better receiver out there that will not break the bank?

Word of note: They had the RTi12’s on sale for $350!! That is a lot of speaker…
    Thanks for all the help,

That's a very nice system...if the DSW is comparable to the Velo DLS then it's a definite improvement. As far as affordable receivers...that Onk is very popular for the Audessey and HDMI features. I'd still recommend one that can be used as a pre/pro down the road. HK 247/347, a Denon 2107 or up, etc...something with pre-outs.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

If the BB has a Magnolia in it you can usually see some in wall Polks out here.

and if you want high end speakers (b&w, wilson, thiel, focal/jm labs, etc.) usually only smaller private owned businesses will carry them.

There's a pretty good high end store near TI. I think it's on Audelia and Walnut. (NE of the 635 & 75 interchange). No polks, but plenty of high end stuff.
