I just saw Glengarry Glen Ross. This movie has almost no action, no car chases, nothing blowing up. It had me from start to finish yesterday though. What a kick **** group of actors! Definitely a keeper.

Probably the greatest "character" story ever.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I concur. It is a good movie, the cast was kick ****. Rarely can they make a movie with that caliber cast without the ego's getting in the way.
Of course, once everyone found out they would be endowed with the legendary Jack Lemon, their ego's got shelved.
Another good flick (if you haven't seen it) was "The Usual Suspects"

Alec Baldwin's performance (however short) goes down as one of my all-time favorites. I don't know if you can win an Oscar for seven minutes of screentime, but this should have been an exception.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

A classic there I had to own, all acting. Another movie with Kevin Spacey and Danny Devito that is all acting is The Big Kahuna, another great sleeper movie.

It's in my DVD collection because I think it's awesome, but a word to those who rent/buy it -- this is a movie with real acting and a story. If you want anything beyond that you'll hate it....

    **SPOILER**

Blake: You got leads. Mitch & Murray paid good money. Get their names to sell them. You can't close the leads you're given, you can't close ****, *you are* ****, hit the bricks pal, and beat it, 'cause you are going *out*.
Shelley Levene: The leads are weak.
Blake: "The leads are weak." The **** leads are weak? You're weak. I've been in this business fifteen years...
    Dave Moss: What's your name?
Blake: **** you. That's my name.
    [Moss laughs]
Blake: You know why, mister? 'Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight, I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. *That's* my name.

Watched it last night, I didn't think it was great but it it wasn't terrible. One thing I will say is WHAT A BUNCH OF BULLS#@! TALKING ****, I haven't heard that many F Bombs dropped since The Big Lebowski, those guys really treated each other like crap. The Alec Baldwin Character was great though, by far the best part of the movie for me.

I've said it here and many other places that I'm not the smartest guy in the world so can someone clear something up for me? Okay, I know that Glengarry refers to the leads ''the good leads'', ''the leads for closers'', and that Glen Ross refers to some property that the guys had sold in the past, but to me it looked like Roma was still selling the property, any way what is the connection between the two? Why is the movie tittled Glengarry Glen Ross? or I'm I looking for something that isn't there?

and after reading a little on Mamets play.

I used to install car audio at dealerships and you'd see these kinda guys in full bloom. I can only imagine what real estate sized money could produce.

Pachino's Ricky Roma was a character to behold. He'd eat your heart and ask you to pass the salt as you look up dazed. He would size up, fold spindle and mutilate any challengers and was like the devil himself on 'sits'...Scarface w/o the guns all for a Caddy well actually the 'alpha rooster' title and first taste of the Glengarry leads with the sure riches they'd bring a hungry shark like him.

Jack Lemons desperation was palpable, then he harpoons a whale,so he thinks, before our eyes he transforms into the guy who Roma emulated and gleaned from. An old dogs final moments of glory.

Hey millerman look at this snapshot article which captures GGGR.

Watch those Ricky Roma and Levine scenes again they're worth it and most of the movie is up on youtube

Okay I just ordered Big Kahuna, Usual Suspects and one that wasn't on this list, LA Confidential which looked pretty good. It looks like I got a Spacey hat trick so hopefully it's worth it.

LA Confidential is a great flick. Big Kahuna is not that well known, but the acting was excellent. Spacey and Devito are a great match for each other.
