Small Surround Speaker Help

Hello to all,

I'm just about to pull the trigger on:

Onkyo 605
Polk RTi4 L/R
Polk CSi3
BIC H-100

Now the question - Due to space/layout (and wife) limitations, I'm restricted to smaller wall mounted speakers for my surrounds. They will have to be mounted on the walls to the sides of the sofa at approx 9' high and angled slightly down.

I would be gratefull if I could get some recomendations/thoughts/whatever for a matching rear satallite type or small speaker for the surround duty. Approx. split of 80%TV & movies and 20% music.

Would something like the Polk RM101 work?

Thanks for any thoughts you can provide.
Kevin

I they are in your budget, I would look at the FXi3's.
Crutchfields has some good prices now..$249.00/pr. + free shipping.
They are matched to the RTi4 / CSi3 and can be set for bipole or dipole.
    I like mine.

    Good luck,
    Jim

Thanks Jimmy, I'll have a look at the FXi3's.

OK a left field thought here, could I use a second pair of RTi4's lying on their backs on the floor (tiled) behind my sofa. Would this work?

I'd put the Rti4's on stands behind the sofa, before I would put them on the floor.

RTi4's are made to wall mount, but I know ALL about the wife factor.

Jimmy, totally agree re the RTi4's on stands behind (especially with the current price) but I just don't have the room, hence I really need to find something smaller that is a reasonable match that I can mount on the side walls.

All an any suggestions greatfully appreciated, keep them coming!

Welcome to the Club KPT! Nothing will match your RTi4 better than two more RTi4 or FXi3. That being said, I don't think putting them on their side on the floor will do you any good for various reasons that I won't go into. Perhaps you should consider MiniMonitors, if you can find some (I've seen them on e-Bay for about $75 or so with shipping). Although they are not from the same generation as your speakers, they will still have the Polk sound and sometimes this can match up very well despite generation differences, especially for surround duty which is really only important for five channel stereo or 5.1 music sources AFIK. I have been able to compare them directly and very favorably to the RT35s that are probably very similar to your RTi4 in terms of size and performance.
    Alea jacta est!

KEX, thanks for the welcome! After some thought I'm going to initially live with the 3.1 setup for a while. Amazon currently has killer deals on the Onkyo 605, RTi4's and CSi3. So I just pulled the trigger:):) Just need to order my sub.

Can't wait for it all to arrive now, the speakers on my Vizio LCD suck big time, so hopefully I'll notice the difference:p

Thanks to all for the help, I'll report back when I'm setup.
