I blew one MW6500

on my Monitor 7's; I guess it had it coming; I bought these speakers 6 months ago and only played them for a very short while. I upgraded the crossovers last week and have been using them daily, and today one of the drivers got stuck.
I have a pair of MW6502's, which are 4 ohms, vs 8 ohms the 6500's. Can I just swap them or the different impedance is a no-no? I know the sound will probably be different; I just want to know if something can blow up.

Thanks!!

You're not going to blow anything up, but the crossover frequency will be altered, along with the efficiency.

    Cheers,

I may have one or two laying around. I'll look for them tomorrow.

No you won't blow anything up. Discounting operator error :p, what volume level were you at when it blew?

They were not overdriven; in fact I left thm fine last night, and when I turned everything on today one of them was pushed out and stuck; I forced it back and it plays but with a lot of scratching.

Noel, let me know if you have one/two.

Something had to have caused this Ricardo. I have not one clue as to what except checking a loose connection, but I would tend to think it was something else.

What would cause a current surge so bad to cause this? Amp?

Hmmm...last night we had 40 MPH winds and lost power a few times. maybe that had something to do with it.

Anyway, I could not stand it and swapped them. have listened to a couple of songs, and cannot tell the difference. So everything's good.

Wrong; there is a difference. Bass. Not necessarily lower extension, but with a lot more "presence". I like it.

The audible reality of replacement drivers is exactly what you said Ricardo.

There's not a soul on this board who could tell the difference between a MW6509 and MW6510. It does make sense to replace them with the proper drivers but in a pinch, or without a proper replacement, they work just fine.

Polk is condensing the replacement driver line, actually has been, so some of you folks might want to stock up now. At some point it should end.
