I have been hearing different things on using onkyo 605 to drive RTI10's. Some people are saying i need to upgrade reciever or downgrade to RTI8. And some say i am going to be fine, since RTI10 are extremely efficient. Does anybody have this combination.

    Not the SAME, but close.

I was driving my RTi10s with a Denon 100wpc 2106. They sounded all right, to be sure,

but lacked a lot of the "punch" I heard when I demoed them. So I bought an Adcom GFA555

to properly drive them :D (the amp was "used"--- under $300) .

Can you stay with the setup you have? Absolutley. The Rti10s will sound very good as

they stand; but I would still consider the option of picking up an external amp in the future

    anyway. Night/day difference, IMHO.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Onkyo 605 doesn't have pre-outs an external amp can be added. I drive my Lsi15 with Onkyo 605 and the receiver doesn't get heated and drive them fine, it doesn't have the slam at the lower end, and smoothness at higher end like my old parasound amp, but it is good enough for HT with occasional music use.

Right now i just ordered RTI8's and plan on getting ED A3-350 for sub. So if i decide to get RTI10's pretty much i have to upgrade my receiver to get the right stuff out of the rti10's.

My bad. I didn't realize the Onkyo did not have preouts. Never mind :o!

Nice sub choice, I've been hearing good things about ED and Epik.

Another Polkie, nm4710, had these issues recently (there's a thread on the subject somewhere). He found that he really needed good external amplifiers to drive the RTi10 woofers. The RTi8 should be a lot easier to drive since they are two way speakers with no bass woofers, but still, you may find the Onkyo somewhat lacking with these also (although sound should still be good). If you are likely to notice what is lacking, I would strongly advise getting a receiver with pre-outs so that you will have the option of adding external amplifiers later on. Otherwise, like me, you will be stuck with the necessity of changing your receiver and starting from scratch.

I didn't realize you had already got the 605 so I didn't mean to rain on your parade. You will still get very good sound with the RTi8, so external amps are probably not so much a necessity as they might have been with the RTi10, so I wouldn't have any regrets about your choices just yet.

    Welcome to the forum, BTW!

I'm surprised that you're able to run the LSi15's with the 605 with no problems. My understanding is that it can only handle 8 ohm speakers.

hjd17, please keep us posted on your experience with running RTi8's on the 605. I have the same receiver and am thinking about taking advantage of Fry's RTi8 deal as well.
