I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering these for my living room. I'll be listening to both music and movies with this set-up.

Front - RC85i in-wall
Rear - FXi3
Center - CS1
Sub - PSW10

Total price $639.97

Will this be a decent set-up and will the speakers sound good together? The FXi's state they are best timbre matched with the RTi series. Does this mean that they won't sound good with the RCi's? Any advice or recommendations would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome Dpc. You have a great setup. However you should get the CSI 5 which is a match for your other speakers The CS1 isn't. You could also think about upgrading your sub.

Cathy is right, on all accounts. The 5 (or 3 even) will be a better match. Check out the new PSW 125, or the new DSW PRO series from Polk. If you are getting the PSW10 on a freebie w/ purchase, it will certainly augment the low end - but the new Polk subs are a substantial step up in performance.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the info so far! I'll upgrade to the CSI 3 center for sure. Not sure I can justify spending the cash for a 5.

The PSW10 was a freebie but they will also kick in $199 toward the purchase of ANY Polk sub so I'll upgrade that as well. What do you think of the PSW404? It's a bit less money than the 125 and I'm trying to watch the $$$ I spend.

    Thanks again!

Hmm, crutchfield says the PSW404 is no longer available. I can get the PSW125 for $150though so looks like I'll be going that route. Thanks!

The 404 is on it's way out of production, but will dig deeper and play louder than the PSW10. The 125 is also an upgrade for the 10, and a solid option for your setup.

Forgot to say it earlier, but welcome to the boards, and thanks for choosing Polk Audio! Stick around and enjoy the audio fray. ;)

    Cheers,

Shouldn't he just get another RC85i in-wall for his center? Would that not be the best match of all (I was under the impression that centers are always a compromise of sorts because most people don't have room for another bookshelf or tower under or over their TV/monitor)?

Welcome to the Club dpc! This is quite an unusual forum IMO, with an almost family atmosphere, but I'm still a bit new here so I'm no expert.

It would match better, but I am assuming that in-walls aren't already wired for center and rear, or he would have gone that route.

Thanks for the welcome guys - and all the input of course. Can an RC85i be purchased singly as a center? I guess I thought they were only sold in pairs. I was planning to place the center on a shelf of the cabinet just below my TV. I'm not sure if stud location would be a problem mounting an in-wall directly above or below the TV. I'd have to check into that. I also have to check and make sure the CSI 3 will fit on the shelf I intended for it to go. It seems like a pretty big speaker.

I say go with the Csi3 center and get the biggest baddest sub you can afford

Either way you go with your sub choice, you can`t go wrong with Polk Audio Speaks

and you can always upgrade the sub sometime down the road...

Probably on e-Bay or elsewhere, but even as a pair, the RC85i is probably significantly cheaper than a CSi5. You could just sell your single to somebody else or keep it as a spare for future use.

I would go with the 5, and get the BIC h100 sub. The 5 is pretty big, but make it fit. There is a good deal on it this weekend.
