At this point I don't even want to know what I've got.

All I know is that I haven't been feeling well since September.

That's horrible. I've had a cough, runny nose, and cold-like symptoms for 3 months now. On top of that I've got strep throat and a sinus infection! I just hope it's not for another 4 months...

Did you get a look at your blood results? Was the elevated white count due to neutrophils or lymphocytes and any depression in any of the counts. That will help clue you in as to wether its viral or bacterial. Yellow or green mucous is not the predictor it was once thought to be, so that doesn't mean much.

Don't know what antibiotics you've been given but amoxicillan has been proven to be no better than placebo or saline sprays. Of course, if it's viral no antibiotic will work.

Often with recurrent infections there is stagnation in the sinus flow, which are supposed to be "self flushing" and it provides a nice breeding area for the bugs. This is why the surgeries are often very successfull, they open up those passageways quite nicely.

There are a couple of self-care things you can do to try to open them up a little yourself. They are a little hard to explain (much easier to demonstrate) but pm me if you want me to run through those with you.

The blood results were inconclusive, the doctor was not sure if it was a viral or bacterial infection. What clued him in was that last time, the antibiotics had an effect on the infection.

I've been given both azithromycin and another common antibiotic. The antibiotics did seem to do something though.

Part of the problem is that the sinuses are poorly vascularized, so many antiobiotics have trouble reaching a sufficient concentration in the sinuses to be effective, like pennicillan and its relatives. there are others that are more lipid soluble like doxycycline that seem to be more effective in reaching critical concentrations. I'm not telling you what you should be taking, that's up to you and your doc, just trying to point out that all antibiotics are not the same.

I can't remember if you said you're seeing a EENT specialist or not. But if you're not, it's probably about time.

I can understand that. The first antibiotic did help, and the second one made a difference but didn't eliminate the problem completely.

A friend of mine went through the same thing. This is what he told me:
Yea - it took 3 prescriptions to knock out what I have. I went to an ENT - I have 2 benign lymph nodes...waiting to see if they go down. He said they seem to be much smaller than before...

    No surgery just yet...

Time to see a ENT if you haven't already.

    Haha,

In all seriousness, it looks like I'll have to see a doctor again. When he called basically things didn't sound so good from the way he described it...
