    Eight midwoofers for $50 is a good price but goodness knows what condition they are in.

    Assuming no tears, shifted magnets, or open coils I'd say it's worth a shot.

    John's comment is valid, no doubt and my comments come from a different perspective and histroy of ownership. The previous comment about a loudspeaker for a purpose(Game Room) reads like, wait for the right speaker to me.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    I suppose I shall keep looking for that special speaker somewhere in Tejas. :o

    What's a set of clean SDA-SRS2s go for these days? I'm just trying to think out the economics. So $50 for the pair, assuming they come with the SDA cable. Cruzer says he wanted to replace SL2000s, so another $200 for silks. Cabinet repairs won't be seen behind the grill cloth although the future value is hurt. Figure in another $25-50 for unknown expenses for around $275+ total.

    SDAs aren't what I'd think of as game room speakers, but they certainly would sound nice after an overhual.

    now now...lets not get too worked up about this. I'll probably get the speakers anyway, because what's $50 in the long run? and if I get em working, then great, otherwise, I'm looking for the same speaker and already have some parts for them. :cool:

    I'm wondering if the current owner was messing with the crossovers when he installed the strange looking tweeters. I know if I were looking to change my stock tweeters with some other type I would definitely want to make sure the crossovers are designed and setup up properly.

    Not getting worked up, just thinking out loud. I'm the one who says buy the things, you can't go wrong.

    Think someone who'd do that to a pair of Polks (and their cheap, available replacement tweeters) would be smart enough to try and hack the xover? Easy to fix anyway unless they've been gutted.

    They tweets look familiar, like something I've seen out of Parts Express.

    John - What I type is my opinion. I've owned or moved MANY Polk speakers and my comments are 100% biased. I wouldn't buy that speaker based on the reality of it, and the suspect history. In addition, who cares, its not rare or uncommon.

    Behind the grill? Sorry, but I like to gaze at my speakers naked every now and then. What if your friends stop by? Do you really think your chatter will overcome the hideous aesthetics? If they get by the "Well, the reason the....." ......I'd be suprised.

    my only comment would be: What's more important? The way it looks or the way it sounds?

    Sure you don't want your speakers too look like someone took a chainsaw to them, but last time I checked, speakers produce sound, and that's the (my) main reason for buying a speaker.

    What do I know, I'm just starting to get into this stuff.

    was it something I said?:confused:

    maybe you're right doro, maybe the speakers should be burnt to the ground.

    I never play my 1.2TLs with the baffle on so aesthetics are very important to me. Those tweets do look like something from Parts Express. Ben62670 will know by looking at them.

    I'm the other way, I rarely take the grills off my speakers unless I'm showing them or seeing how close I am to blowing something up. I guess growing up on east coast speakers like KLHs with the masking tape and bare wiring under there did it to me.

    My gosh, this is a no-brainer. For $50 you get a few hours worth of fun messing around with them, you may get 8 perfectly good midwoofers, and the absolute worst case you get $50 worth decent quality firewood. Go for it.
    Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p
    Amp = Carver AV-705THX 5-Channel
    Processor = NAD T747

    Center=Polk CS10, Surround = Athena Dipoles, Sub= Boston 12HO
    Music/Video Streaming = Netgear NEO550

    I must admit that I don't know much about speakers, but since they are already 'ruined,' I can't do much more harm. Can't be any worse than cars or computers. :)

    Besides, I could always use another project.

    Quite talking and buy them already. Then post pics, I'm very curious to see what kind of shape they're actually in.

    Try hard to extract an SDA cable from the seller. That's not always an easy thing to replace.
