PSW300 - Blown cone?

I just recently moved and made the stupid mistake of hooking my PSW300 up to the newly re-set up theater without checking the volume. I briefly stepped out of the room during a movie and an intense LFE scene came on. My wife yelled from the other room that the couch was shaking and asked if I could turn it down. To my dismay I came in to hear the poor PSW300 cranking with all its might and making that popping sound when a driver just can't handle what it's being asked to do. Now even on low volume levels I hear what sounds like that same noise like the cone has separated. :(

Couple of questions:
1. If I take out the amp, can I easily get to the driver to inspect?
2. If I can get to the driver, are there cone repair kits available for Polk drivers, assuming that is the problem? (looked already on Ebay and none came up)
3. Should I try and buy a replacement driver from Polk if still available? (This sub is 11 years old)
4. Am I looking at a replacement sub?

Well, I have answered my own questions. I opened up the sub this evening by taking out the amp. I noted immediately that the amp (unlike my RT3000 amps) had a protective plastic cover around all of the circuit boards making it much safer to test with outside of the enclosure. The driver was easily accessible so I pulled the screws on it. After pressing down on the cone and moving it back and forth (and also just tapping on the cone) I was able to reproduce the annoying scraping sound I had been hearing after over driving it a few weeks back. I hooked the driver up to the amp outside of the casing just to confirm that I could reproduce the sound and sure enough, it did.

My two year old enjoyed the adventure as well. He particularly liked to feel the 10" driver while it was playing music. Guess I need to see if Polk has any drivers in stock for it....or just pick up a used PSW1200 from someone.....

Well if the cone's inner suspension (spider) has seperated, we *may* be able to repair it. Please send just the woofer to:

    Polk Audio
    5601 Metro Dr
    Baltimore MD 21215
    Attn Customer Service

I'd like to reiterate we will certainly try to fix it, but no guarentees....

I have the same problem with my PSW300. I removed the driver and can see the spider has come unglued from the metal basket. Is there a prefered adhesive so I could fix it myself? I was thinking of using two shiskabob skewers to suspend the spider above the basket so I could lay down a new bead of adhesive and then drop the spider back into place.

One thing I noticed was a pretty strong smell on my fingers after handling the driver. I'm wondering if degassing from the box or wood glue reacted badly with the adhesive attaching the spider to the basket. Or maybe it was just an adhesive that doesn't age well! It looks like a lot of people are having this problem with the PSW300.
