Hello, I posted this in the speakers forum too, and also thought troubleshooting would be a good category to post.

Just bought two fxi5 speakers. I have two questions regarding the items included. They shipped in one box that included: two fxi5 speakers, two #10 long black screws, four little black rubber stubs peelable from a little black strip w/ T4000 written several times in the back, and a manual. The packaging came sealed like never opened before.

Questions to anyone who bought the fxi5s:
1) Why only two black screws when four are required to mount the two speakers.
2) What are the four rubber stubs for?

you might be missing two screws... its just easier to go down to your local hardware store and get two more long screws.. easy and won't require you to wait. hook those babies up.

the black rubber stubs are for attaching towards the bottom inner side of the speaker. so as it rests against the wall when mounted, it won't rattle. it's padding for the speaker and the wall.

Hey danger boy. Thanks for letting me know. I've been thinking about it all day. Do you have a pair for fxi speakers? Or how did you know that the stubs are only used between the wall when mounting.

I called the salesman at American TV where I bought them and he thought the stubs were meant as speaker feet for them to rest on. That can't be though as there were only four. Since I'm missing two screws I thought maybe I'm missing 4 extra stubs also.

I'll pick up the screws at the hardware store, I mentioned them cause thought maybe since those were missing extra stubs were missing.

If you read this please confirm that you're 100% sure and I appreciate your feedback. Makes me feel better. :)

Fyi, I will also call Polk support to confirm. I'd assume this is something others purchasers would like to know because it does not mention it in the manual. Just have to say all you guys in polk forum are a tremendous help.

PS. the speakers sound incredible. don't stand up to my rti10s as lack of bass exists, but w/ a sub they will be awesome.

    My existing setup:
    fronts rti10
    center csi5
    sides fxi5
    rears rti6
AVR - planning on denon 3808
    sub - ? yet

magellings, i have similar speakers as yours.. i have the FXi3's, just a smaller speaker is all. if you don't have a sub, run your RTi10's on large. the FXi5,s can also be run on large.. but since they are surround speakers.. there won't be a whole lot of volume out of them..

after you have them all hooked up.. run your auto speaker set up from your receiver.. and that will set all the levels for you.. then your movie watching will be taken to a whole new level.

good luck and enjoy. let us know if you have any other questions.

Polk CS reponse to items in box:

    Hello Mark,

The FXi5 doesn't come with any actual mounting screws, since the characteristics of the wall could mean a specific hardware choice. In the owner's manual we recommend #8 or #10 wood screws into a wood stud for best support. Also "wall anchors" can be used if studs are not available. The four feet are used on the rear of the cabinet at the bottom two corners to hold the bottom of the speakers out from the wall since the mounting bracket protrudes away from the back surface of the cabinet.

I'm not sure about the "T4000" on the manual, that isn't anything done by us.

In my opinion it would be a good idea to have them exchanged for new ones.

    Regards, Ken, Polk Audio

    My response:

*To clarify, the fxi5s did come w/ two black screws packaged w/ the manual. It also came w/ exactly four feet. Are all four feet used for one speaker when mounting? Should I have eight feet?

*The T4000 is not in the manual, the code is printed several times on back of the black sticky paper that the four feet can be peeled from. Looks like at production it was a large sheet cut into little four stub sections w/ those words printed on the back.

    Hello Mark,

Sorry for all of the confusion. I went to the engineering source and asked the mechanical engineer and was informed that the speakers do come with two wood screws each. Evidently this is a carryover from a previous FX design that was unchanged. I know that can lead to further confusion since there are two mounting holes in each speaker. Why have four holes and only supply two screws? The real answer is that there shouldn't be any screws, giving the owner the ability to choose the appropriate screws depending on the mounting situation.

We have checked and the new FXiA4 and A6 have had this corrected.

However, from everything you've indicated there isn't any reason not to believe those are factory fresh speakers and they should sound excellent with your system. Again, I'm sorry for the misinformation.

    Take care, Ken
