Wow..i just recieved my new set of Audio Art IC-3 IC's. Until now I had not used a really good set of cables. I thought that the $30 set i had bought from my local "stereo/furniture/appliance/car stereo/electronic/cell phone" dealer was a "decent" set. After adding my Arcam DV27+ to the equation i figured i needed to spend a little bit on some better IC's.

I hooked them up tonight and was immediately impressed. The bass is much more present and pronounced yet very controlled. I can't believe this is possible. The soundstage opened up considerably to the point where it just about sounds like some things are coming from outside the walls. Never heard this before....anywhere. I can hear things right beside my ears and even coming from behind me. I feel like i just lost my virginity again. For $85 for a half meter...this was a very good improvement to my system....almost more so than my $2500 player. If things get better than this I am just about tempted to go solely 2 channel.

Cables are like subtle tone controls for your system. Radioshack Golds actually sound good compared to my expensive sets, that was a surprise, however, one expensive set sounds considerably worse than anything else...

    Cool.

I was once very skeptical with benefits of branded IC's whether they made a difference, I already had a pair of Nordost red dawns. That is until I got some fairly priced Chinese stuff that blew the Nordost's out of the water.

Haha, can we say that synergy can be orgasmic, in a way?

I wanted to correct that by RS Golds I meant the old ones, the ones they just discontinued. The old ones have these nice gold plated plugs and black wire casing. The really old ones sound better than the recent old ones. The really old ones aren't as thick. Anyway, they are discontinued and you can only find them occasionally in RS stores, stock that hasn't been bought out, most of the time it is the 6 and 12' sets, but after going to 5 radio shack stores, I only found one with 3' sets, and I bought the last two.

The new golds are crap, the plugs are weak and plastic with only gold plating on the inside, and they don't sound so good. RS always discontinues their good products, this being one of them, and that 50w amp, and we can't forget the LX speakers with the ribbon tweeters.

Anyway, I was surprised at how well they sounded compared to my Wireworlds and Vampire Wires. They are definitely better than the Vampire Wires that I have, but about on an equal plain as the Wireworlds... and the price can't be beat... if you can find them. (maybe check ebay)

I have tried other cables too... The highest end AR cables, nothing to phone home about there, good cables but I didn't like the sound, and I have tried some other higher end cables but could not justify the price given my system.

The guy that makes my tube buffer, Ian Grant, this is what he uses in his main system... the old RS golds over all the highest end cables. I found it odd until I actually dug out my old cables and tried them... it was a shock, and I had to go out in search for enough to hook up the buffer and the DAC.

IF you are looking for the most transparent cables at a good price, Vampire Wire makes some good cable, but be ready to hear everything, even what you may not want to hear.

Thanx for all the replies. I am soo pumped about my system now. Sucks that i already can't wait to better it even more. I'm sure that with what i have now....my speakers are the weakest link.

The dealer that I bought the IC's from offered me a one year trade in on these at full price. I couldn't resist. Try them for a year and send them back to get something a little higher end? Geez...that's a heluva deal. But so far...i'm tickled with these.

I'm using middle of the line Audioquest speaker cables. These are the only ones i've tried besides cheap stuff from walmart. They seem to sound good to me. I wonder though....the new IC's are silver....should the speaker cables be silver as well to properly mesh? Any thoughts??

you can go with silver speaker wires.. but in my opinion and experience with them.. is that you wouldn't gain much or anything really from going with them. the big difference as you have just found out is in interconnects..

I use a local guy's copper with silver plating interconnects too.. much better balance in highs, mids and lows over pure silver ic's. so much silver can be to bright.... i've been there with pure silver wires. to expensive and to bright.

stick with good copper speaker wires.. and i'm sure it will balance out nicely with your new iC's :D

Silver I/C's aren't always bright. I have 2 different pure silver I/C's here made by the same company, one is bright, the other is neutral to dark.

I would think silver interconnects would work well with the LSi speakers... :) anyone try this combo?

Speaker cables are higher level signals, whereas ICs are low level signals... so, ICs should make the most difference, since there is more room to screw up the signal... since there is less of it to work with.

the ic-3's and sc-5's are made of sliver plated copper not all silver.
