Why are you needing to replace them?

You need to bite the bullet, and get the correct parts.

They no longer work. I also thought about buying another set of RTi 6's or 4's because they are close to the same price i would pay for two tweeters, and then just buy the tweet for the CSi5.

I would suggest buying the correct drivers as well. If you don't want to absorb the cost, different drivers are not a solution, just a band-aid and they often sound awful.

There's more to loudspeaker design than the speaker in play here, as the crossover was also developed around the factory speaker. It's not just about dropping in something that fits.

Let us know what you do or want to do.....

My thoughts exactly, can you tell us what happened. Were you rocking them out that loud? I can only imagine how much noise you were making with them, those things go insanely loud. What AVR are you using on them?

Ya i got a little carried away. My AVR is an Onkyo TX-NR801. I wish i would have gotten into an HK but Circuit City didnt have the one i wanted at the time. Now i have a different perspective on things. Id like to go with seperate amplification. The Sunfire products look good just havent really researched yet. Nice setup by the way.

You don't need a receipt. The warranty is thru Polk, not Circuit city.Do you still have the boxes the speakers came in? they should've come with a warranty card?

Hold your horses Obieone, as a receipt and/or proof of purchase is required for warranty coverage from every manufacturer on the planet. When it comes to Circuit City, they often handle warranty claims onsite but that may have changed over the past year. The consumer has the option of handling it with CC or directly with the manufacturer.

GSRBOB - I would suggest you contact Polk Customer Service and see what they are willing to do for you sans receipt. If you sent in your warranty card, you should be just fine.

With their computer, CC should have a record of when you bought them.

I looked up the specs on the Onkyo TX-NR801, it shows 100 w/channel.

The Rti8 shows efficiency at 90db.
The Csi5 shows efficiency at 90db.

I can see why your ears were ringing.

You're not going to save that much money by going with "It'll-Fit" replacement tweeters, and you'll kick yourself in the rear if you do.

As others have mentioned, get ahold of Polk; if you have the warranty cards from the box, you should be good to go.

Our 7.1 system is powered with a Lil' Onkyo (503) at 75 w/channel. After 4 months of keeping the reins on the horse, we (okay, I) decided let's see what she'll do.

"Fast and Furious". Our speakers have similar efficiency ratings (lower on the ladder, mind you), but the railroad track scene was played at max volume with the grills off all speakers.
The Polks soaked it all up, and said "Thank you sir, may I have another".
Knocked pictures off the wall, etc, so I can't imagine the sound level in your room to get 3 tweeters to blow.

As others will tell you, fewer tweeters get popped with high power amps than vice versa.
While deciding on the route you're going to go regarding tweeter replacement, you might want to check your speaker wiring hookup (any spare strands, etc).

    Good luck !

yeah, I'm curious too; how the hell did you blow those tweeters out, and on 3 different speakers? I run an Onkyo TX-SR703, with Rti6s, 4s, and a CSi3. I've cranked the amp full tilt, and never even heard distortion through them. My amp is 100 watts a channel, very very similar to what you were using. Sounds like something may be wrong with your amp or a distortion issue.

That being said, I supervise over at CC, and we keep good records of purchases. Basically, if we took down your name, or you know the credit card you used, we'll have a record of it (I've dug up stuff from purchases 15 years ago). The problem though, is that we haven't carried RTi in close to 5 years, so your speakers might be out of warranty anyhow.

Replace those tweeters with the proper ones. If you try to cheap it out, you'll probably still spend a decent amount on the tweeters, and end up with something that sounds worse than cheapo speakers that cost less than your replacement tweeters.
