DUDE,
lket me just tell you how stupid this player is...o my god...........the picture has to be the best on the market.....super clean and clear.......heavy and well built....Denon took it out when they made this beast.........super nice man....costly but worth itDan

The Denon is a fantastic player. The video quality is unmatched at this point and higher including the Pioneer DV-AX10, Faroujda DVD-5000 player and so on.
The picture is really deep and detailed the edges are clean and sharp with no visible stairstepping or jaggedness.
Sound Quality is equally impressive with awesome dvd-audio playback with the Denon Link-AKA CAT-5 -
Thanks guys, sounds like a consensus that this baby rocks! I wonder if Denon has any plan to release new models to replace their current series?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

All,
Thanks for your feedback on the Denon 9000...Now, I need to expand the question one notch up. For anything less than $2000, what would you recommend (based on what you experience, hear, like, etc.) The player has to have the following features:
- play the three format (CD, DVD-A, SACD) with equally impressive dynamic, soundstage on the audio (including CD playback)
- quality build
- THX would be a plus
I've run into several great machine, with mixed review in almost all of them: Integra 9.1, Denon 38A (no SACD, but if CD and DVD-A playback surpass anything out there, I would consider it), Denon 47ai, Rotel RCD 1070 (anything else I missed for consideration)?
Any feedback would greatly be appreciated...
ps: I am using Sony XA3ES and DV-37, for CD playback, the Sony has better sound, anybody out there has the XA3ES (circa 1996) and did any comparison to the more current player?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
I gotta tell yeah man......THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE....Pioneer Elite DV47a........it's a killer deal at 999.99....I own it and think it's one of the verybest dvd players I ever seen go.....and I saw just about all of them go.......The Denon 9000 is 3499.99 and worth every penny........it's a real good player...not a bang for the buck player........thats take it out.
Pioneer Man .......no need to look no further.Dan

Dan,
does the 47A has Chroma bug problem? thanks.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
yes.......but so not noticable it's sick. The chroma bug, the player does have adjustments in it's extensive video adjustment menu.
Don't sweat that man........they all have this problem......it's more noticable on cheaper players.Go check it out.Dan

Will someone please explain what this Chroma bug is? I've seen mention of it in a few posts, but have no idea what it is.

Shack, how true! I was happily enjoying my player, couple days after I bought it (paid $700+tax, elite dv-37) watching my dvd collections, and run into this subject...life has changed since then, I accepted the fact that my dvd player is blemished, and it will not ever be the same...therefore, this time around, while looking for the DVD-A/SACD good, lean mean machine, I am taking my time....Having said that, I still think that my elite machine performed flawlessly, stunning pq, great aq.....
upgrades is fact of life, isn't Dan?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Dan,
thanks on your feedback....I'll audition the 47ai again this weekendI am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
polkatese,
life is all about upgrades......I'd quit my job and become a bum if I couldn't upgrade anymore.
If your into the way your dv37 looks..then your in for a treat with the Pioneer Elit dv47ai.Dan

indeed,
upgrades are also the reasons why my closet full of gears that I don't know what to do (I know, I could have listed them on ebay and get cash, but I don't know if it worth the efforts)...anyway, Dan, on your 47Ai, did you find spending more time listening to DVD-A or SACD? did you find more selections in one format or they are equally represented (understand there is no overlapping..)? and last but not least. do you feel that you can live without one format, if you have to choose, or you feel that both formats are really complement each other and a must have? I know it's a lot of questions, thanks in advance...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
polkatese,
After reading articles on SACD vs. DVD-A in a couple different A/V mags the format direction seems to be pointed toward SACD. Seems strange since almost all hi-res dvd players do not support this format. That seems to be changing however with the new players. I like to see technology move forward but this dvd format crap is giving me a headache.
Just my small 2 cents worth.

Greg,
I agree with you, SACD format is gaining momentum faster than DVD-A. I ended up with two units: Denon 3800 for DVD/DVD-A and Philips SACD-1000. Overall, I am very pleased with the decisions, not too crazy about the snake pit, though...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
The 47A seems to support all my format needs. DVD-A, SACD(stereo and multi), CDR/RW, and MP3. The 1066 will decode HDCD. Not sure about the bass management thing though. And that most recent BAD word...Chroma Bug.
shack.. thanks for that link on the Chroma Bug..great read
THE SNAKE PIT LIVES ON.

Man I'm telling you unless you have a Denon receiver so you can use the D-link (Denon's i-link equivilant) for digital signal swapping, just go with the new Denon 2900. It's less than half the price and it's BETTER! It's smaller, it uses the exact same silicon decoing engine as the 9000. It also has 8mb buffer memory to decrease layer change compared to the 9000's 4mb. The only thing the 9000 has that the 2900 doesn't is the d-link. The 9000 CAN'T play SACD the 2900 can, as well as alot of other formats the 9000 can't play. If you need proof go to this link, its Denons side by side comparison of all their models.

If you really just want the 9000 model I listed a good site link below that has info on Denon's DVD players and the dreaded chroma bug which is now supposed to be fixed.

Denon has confirmed no Chroma Bug on the 2900 - it has the new "chroma bug free" Mitsubishi MPEG decoder.
FINALLY. I HATE THE EFFIN CHROMA BUG.
I can hardly wait for this unit - the SACD and DVD-A audio section promises to be first rate (as good as a dedicated player), and the PQ will bring a tear to your eye - it's THAT good.
If this player is reliable, it will absolutely light up the $1000 price point market in sales volume. I emailed my dealer a few days ago to "remind" him that I'm getting a 2900 from his first batch of shipments.

From CES:Denon Electronics introduced the DVD-2900 its first universal player in the U.S. market. The DVD-2900 plays both DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD discs, along with DVD-R/RW), music and video CD, picture CD, and finalized CD-R/RW. Player-based bass management is included. Although the DVD-2900 includes an RS-232 port for integration with third-party system controllers, the player has no high-resolution digital output capability, either through Firewire or the companys proprietary DenonLink.
Internally, rather than building on last years problem-plagued DVD-2800 platform, the DVD-2900 architecture is based on the DVD-3800, with a few compromises to meet its $999 price point. The chroma bug is long gone, representatives in the Denon booth assured me, You can print that! According to Denon, the first DVD-2900 shipment slated for May is already pre-sold. Deinterlacing is via the same PureProgressive SilImage 504 engine used in the companys flagship DVD-9000, which Denons latest press release lists as an Audio/Video/Super Audio Player, despite no obtainable confirmation of any plans to upgrade it with SACD capability. Will they or wont they? Only time will tell...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Spent all afternoon on the phone and computer. Depending on the re/e-tailer either the first or second week of May.
