I am rebuilding my monitor 7's, and want to change the internal wire. Any recommendations? Don't want to spend a fortune...just want to get the right wire.

Thanks!!!!!!

Not sure it really matters beyond using a decent guage. When I redid my 5b's I used blk/red 16g copper zip wire from Parts Express. Having it color coded helped ensure phase remained constant while rewiring the drivers, etc.

I was not able to rewire from the terminal cup to the x-over board because of the large amt. of gloppy glue used to seal the cup. It would have taken quite the elbow grease to get it all off.

    Good luck

Thanks; I don't really want to change the gauge (at least not much). I really want to know what's the right/best type of wire. I am not changing it to improve or experiment. I am changing it because it is corroded...
I'll look up Parts Express. They are actually close by :)

Why not Mac CuQ Speaker Wires? ;)

The best wire is BRAIDED GOLD WIRE followed by SILVER BRAIDED WIRE. Why braided? Electicity, current travels outside or around the surface of the wire--the more braids, the more travel surface. Why gold or silver? Because gold is number 1 conductor (2nd to the ??Borazon??), and silver is number 2 conductor. I heard from my physics teacher a long time ago this material called Borazon (Borason??), but I am not sure what it is.

You must have had the same teacher as Hearingimpaired.

Gold is slightly better than aluminum as a conductor, silver is best.

    Parts Express.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Actually solid copper is supposed to be a better conductor than stranded. There is more density in solid. More density = less resistance. The idea of the electrons only flowing on the outside surface of the wire (skin effect) does not apply to the audio spectrum, which is very low frequency compared to RF.

If possible, wouldn't you want to use the same type of cable from the amp to the speaker as you would inside the speaker?
I'm going to have new cabs made up for my Tannoys and plan on running Goertz/Alpha Core cable from the x-over to the speakers. It'll probably cost more than the new cab though.

As for the Monitor 7c's I'm rebuilding, I may do the same, but with one of their lower lines of cable.

uncoated coat hanger from your local dry cleaning establishment. Not too flexible but damn sturdy. ;)
