Is the Emotiva LPA-1 any good? I know it doesn't meet the "200 wpc" requirement of some members here (most notably, cfrizz, perhaps?). I'm trying to decide between this one new ($500), or something like an Arcam or Outlaw used. How does the LPA-1 hold up, compared to these and/or something modest like an AudioSource at $100 or so per channel (from amazon.com)?

I would look around for a deal on an Adcom, or a Parsound. Tight headroom, dampening factor, and low distortion. As for watts people that know me know I think big. I was running over a 1000 watts RMS to each of my fronts, but...
    A.) I had no neighbors
B.) I was driving 20 drivers per cabinet
    c.) I'm nuts
For HT options are more open. If your emphasis is on music less watts of more quality can be a good thing. I wish manufactures would post how many watts in class A amps put out before going A/B. Remember that doubling watts only gets a 3db jump in SPL.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

I am actually mostly happy with the sound I have for HT. It is more for music that I am interested in upgrading (although I hope the HT will improve somewhat too). I don't need louder for either. I just would like music to be more detailed or something.

I'm doing all my testing with existing gear and so far the 40 wpc harman/kardon 147 seems to have significantly more power than the 80 wpc Denon 3200 (and better processing, obviously, since it's almost ten years newer).

P.S. Regarding note (3) above: yes, you might be nuts!

I've used Parasound, Outlaw, Rotel, HK, Odyssey, Marsh, Marantz, and probably a few others I can't remember. The LPA-1 is just as good as nearly all of them, especially for music. For the price, it's a no-brainer.

Just do it. If you don't like it, return it. Nothing to lose.
