I thought a Corvette gets 26mpg. That's pretty good, to me.

You're talking about the vette, right?

Wow, 30mpg in a Corvette is very amazing.

Approximately, what's the mpg of your vette in the city?

In the next few years, theres always going to be a need for big SUVs and trucks...because thats what people want. The 'American companies' arent going to stop making them anytime soon, but we have already seen that they are doing something about it. Ford has the hybrid Escape, GM's V8s turn to 4 cylinders on the highway.

I just dont see them dying off anytime soon, but I guarantee you will see more things as I mentioned above.

Yes, there is always going to be a need for big SUVs and pickup trucks, but I predict that families will be buying more small cars and minivans to replace their big SUVs. A minivan can seat as many people as an SUV, yet can get better gas mileage.

I think SUVs will still be used for off-road purposes and trucks for commercial purposes, while more cars and minivans will be used by the average family. Just my opinion.

I just keep hoping that the price of gas will get high enough that there will finally be enough outrage from the public to start drilling for oil here! If demand is growing by leaps and bounds and the price is skyrocketing, increase the supply and it will come down. Works every time its tried. Unfortunately it cant be tried here because everytime somebody dares suggest we drill in some God forsaken wasteland in Alaska or 200 miles off the coast of Florida - people go crazy!

The price of gas just keeps getting higher.

The highest I've seen around here is $3.61 for premium.

I don't know how current models stack up, but Dad's 2001 Suburban gets just as good gas mileage (if not a HAIR better) than Mom's 2001 Chrysler Town & Country.

Wow, do you have the 2WD model that gets 20mpg HWY?

That's really good for a SUV.

Plus you live in NC - gas prices are almost a dollar less than in NYC.

I wish we had those prices here...

No, Dad's Suburban is loaded with 4 wheel drive. Only option he doesn't have (afaik) is the sunroof.

And yeah, 87 octane is hovering between 2.70 and 2.80 for the most part.

Then that's some awesome mileage from a SUV!

Hahahahahaha. Not good at all. I left late twice and so didn't go the speed limit. And then I got mad one night and....uhh, well....didn't go the speed limit then, either. ;)

How much over the speed limit was that? Usually 3-5mph over will not affect gas mileage THAT much, to my understanding...as long as you're in the highest gear with low RPMs.

Let's just say it was a heck of a lot more than that.

    It affected gas mileage.

    Haha.

I found out the other day on dad's Maxima that going slightly over the speed limit (57 in a 55 zone, for example) didn't hurt gas mileage much as the RPMs were still very low.

But I went right back to 55 as I still get the best economy at that speed.

AB - don't give up on the gas mileage thingy, though. You probably are still getting better gas mileage than you're used to!!
