Sunfire Heating Up

My Sunfire 7200 seems to be heating up today. I thought the whole point of having a Sunfire is that it doesn't heat up.
There was a bit of a smell coming from my rack, but everything seems to be running just fine. I turned down the volume from -35 and it seems to be handling it better (so are my neighbors I bet). Any suggestions?

Okay, I am not sure WTF. That smell may be coming from somewhere else. It almost smells like it's coming from my LSi15 on the front left. There is also a blown light bulb, you know one of those big in ceiling bulbs. I turned the bad boy up to +15 for as long as I could take it. HOLY ****. That was friggin loud.
Anyway I didn't see anymore signs of trauma. I also pulled the component cab out from the wall a bit and the Sunfire seems okay. WTF was that smell? It really smelled like burning metal which cant be good. On the other hand almost all of this equipment is just about 6 months old, so maybe it's just working in?My Main Gear

It seems to be working okay. I am emailing the Sunfire people right now though. Do you think I should open it up? I am tempted to push the hell out of it for a bit just to see if any problems crop up. The room is finally starting to smell normal again. My Main Gear

Hockeyboy, it's apparent that you did not have a catastrophic electrical failure like ShannonW, but I would recommend opening the hood [unless it voids the warrantee] and taking a looksie. With the unit UNPLUGGED, get your nose down in there and take a good whiff until the smell is the strongest. At that location, look for signs of melted solder, burnt colored boards and evidence of a spark, basically anything that doesn't look like it should.
If you smell something [and it will be a strong, old, burnt metallic/plastic type smell with a strong presence], keep the unit out of action until the unit gets serviced. Do not plug it back in, as you run the risk of further damage.
If on the other hand you smell nothing, you are good to go. The fact that it's running hot and there is a "smell" associated with a bulb that's out all happening at the same time leads me to believe you should take it out of service now and do exactly what you are doing, contacting Sunfire for repair. If you happen to talk to her, tell Rita I said "Hi".~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend doing that at this point in time.I am tempted to push the hell out of it for a bit just to see if any problems crop up.
If you do, you run the risk of possibly damaging more than the Sunfire.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I used the SF for about an hour at low levels driving the speakers while I played Bioshock. It seems a bit hot, but no smell. I am going to power down completely until I hear back from Sunfire. I thinks its a good idea to look under the hood so may give that a go tomorrow.
I'll keep you posted and thanks. My Main Gear

Sunfire Heating UP . .
Finally some truth in advertising.:p
If the unit is running hotter than before you turned it to '11', it's damaged. If you continue to use it, you may damage it further, short it to DC, and fry all the voice coils on your fine speakers.-Ignorance is strength - -
How much the AVS2000 is dropping the voltage to the house! ya guys I have anywhere from 125-127v coming it to the house at any given time.

I have two emails into Sunfire support and no response. I even included a phone number. Man if this was SVS or HK I would have had multiple responses already. If it had been Marantz you would have had a call from a VP on the weekend.
We can already give Sunfire and F minus so far for customer service. My Main Gear

Sunfire is no more, so it doesn't surprise me they are slow to non-existent on the CS front.......good luck

Thats funny! Because I just got my Amp back from Sunfire. So that they are no more is untrue!
As for talking to them you need to call and stop e-mailing them. That is the only way to get talk to them when you have a problem and giving them a "F" in customer service is funny because your being lazy by just E-Mailing them.. LoL

Yah I will call. Just think it's reasonable to expect a response to an email using thier "contact us" link. Anyway I am not too sure I am even worried anymore. My girlfriend thinks the burning smell was coming from my gas fireplace which had been run at length that day for the first time. I need to crack that thing open and call Sunfire if there is a problem.
The Marantz story is true. I have emailed them twice on different weekends and got responses in less than an hour, and a tech called me in less than two. That is what I give an A in customer service!:DMy Main Gear

5 Months Later...
My Sunfire was working terrific since this whole event. It has since however completely petered out. It won't even power on, and will blow any new fuse that get's put in. Bummer since it's only a bit more than a year old. I CALLED customer service between 9 and 5 and spoke with a technician who advised me to send it in for repair. Now we can really judge thier service by return time. In the mean time, I have hooked up my speaks to my Marantz which surprisingly drives them nicely. The biggest problem at the moment is I had to completely sacrifice my subs in this configuration. My Main Gear
